Making Peace—Where You Are

making peaceWith the International Day of Peace (September 21st) just around the corner, I was reminded that global peace is the out-picturing of the Inner Peace that starts from within. Transforming difficulties into peaceful learning experiences starts with making peace with where you are, right now.

Making Peace with Contrast

When we are in the middle of intense contrast, in the throes of often crippling fear, anxiety, worry, and doubt, peace is not easy to feel. However, if we don’t want to stay in this place, we must shift our energy, and the easiest way I know to do that is to make peace with where we are, right in that state of contrast.

Law of Attraction dictates that our dominant vibration will draw to us similar-vibration thoughts, feelings, and experiences. So, staying in debilitating fear and anxiety of intense contrast means we’re attracting to us vibrational-equivalents. At some point, the idea of making peace will feel much easier than staying in the contrast.

Bees in the Attic

Personal case in point: In mid-2006, after going into shock from a bee sting, I had been informed that I was now officially allergic to bees. So, imagine how I felt when, during a slow time for my design business, a huge active beehive was discovered in the attic above the master bedroom of my townhome!

Business had been slow, and my finances were tight. My first fear was how to pay to remove the beehive. In a state of fear and panic over the situation, I had forgotten that a bee sting could be deadly!

Every time I thought about the beehive, how it needed to be removed quickly, and that I didn’t know how I would pay for it, I became even more fearful and panicked. My thoughts kept spiraling, and my energy was sinking with them. At some point, in my haze of spiral thinking, I remembered Abraham‘s suggestion to ‘count your blessings’.

Count my blessings?!? ::shock:: How was I supposed to do THAT in the face of THIS?!? I wasn’t sure, but I made myself sit down, right then, and write out a list. The first one was hard to think of, but when I remembered that I hadn’t been stung inside my home by the bees from my own hive, I put it first on the list.

Once I made a list of the blessings, and there turned out to be many, I was suddenly feeling much better about the whole situation! Whenever the fear thoughts would arise, I would turn back to my list of blessings and find myself smiling that I ever thought this situation was a ‘problem’.

As I focused on the list of blessings, something interesting happened. Not only did I feel better, but a short while after making the list, the inspection company that had found the hive called me to say the neighbors would be sharing the expense of removal! Turns out, they were the source of the hive. To me, knowing that the bill would be less than expected was a blessing.

Then, out of the blue, a client I hadn’t spoken to in a long time called me for a large project that would not only cover the cost of the bee removal but provide income for many months ahead. I was amazed and delighted!

By shifting my focus from the ‘problem’ to the ‘blessings’, the entire situation literally transformed into a blessing!

Making peace with where you are will help you release the resistance to the contrast, and see the situation from a better-feeling perspective.

I realize that by the time I learned to look for blessings in the middle of contrast, I had been studying metaphysics for many years. You might not find it so easy to shift your energy on your ‘what is’ (contrast).

Once you experience the value of the process, however, I hope you find that transforming your ‘what is’ contrast is more enjoyable than you expected!

Law of Attraction and Advice: What happened?

Has this ever happened to you…

You are so thrilled about a product or service, in your joy, you spontaneously shared your appreciation with your friends. Then, several of those friends choose to try out the same product or service, but a certain few always end up finding fault where you only found pure joy and appreciation?

Or, conversely, have you been so inspired by a friend’s endorsement that you raced out to purchase the product or service, only to be shocked at how bad it was?

What on Earth happened?

Seriously, how could the same product or service be received in such vastly different ways?

Law of Attraction lined each person up with their dominant energy flow. Like it always does, whether we acknowledge the power of Law of Attraction in our life, or not.

Those who love the product or service are vibrationally aligned to appreciate the experience, possibly ignoring or not being bothered by aspects that would frustrate others. The dissatisfied parties are not vibrationally aligned with appreciation, possibly being unconsciously triggered by many aspects without understanding why.

As long as you are taking responsibility for your own alignment choices, all is well. Nothing ‘bad’ happened, unless you have labeled it so.

If you are finding yourself unhappy with a product or service that someone else enthusiastically referred…check your own alignment.

How are you really feeling, in general and about these products/services?

Where or when have you felt this way before?

Sitting with your feelings and answering those questions may begin to help you unravel the source so you can shed some (conscious) light upon it and begin shifting your own vibration. It’s OK to ask for help if you get stuck.

Appreciation, or lack thereof, can become a habit. Especially for people who harbor an unconscious story that ‘nothing works for me’ or ‘I never get what I want’. Until they recognize this unconscious belief and the patterns it has created, they will go through life blaming experiences and others for things not working out, or never getting what they want.

I know, because I have been one of those people.

It wasn’t until I was old enough to experience a few cycles of the same people, same situations, same disappointments that I was able to begin to recognize the common theme and the underlying emotion. As I did the work to unravel, I discovered the old stories that were running unconsciously and driving my vibration on a wide variety of topics. The good news is that if I can work through this, so can you.

So, when you hear someone enthusiastically referring a product or service, check in with yourself before taking any action. It can be so intoxicating witnessing another’s enthusiasm and appreciation that we forget to follow our own guidance.

Check in with these questions:

A. Why would I be interested or not interested?

B. Will this help me meet a need and am I really willing to receive a solution?

C. Do I harbor doubts? If so, why?

D. Does the idea of purchasing this product or service feel light and joyful to me? If not, it’s time to dig deeper.

When a solution feels fully light and joyful, that’s a good time to move forward by finding out more information. As you do, notice how you feel.

Your Emotional Guidance System is always giving you the best advice and showing you where you are on the emotional / vibrational scale. Notice how you are really feeling, emotionally and inside your body, then follow that inner guidance before taking action suggested by others. Over time, you’ll begin to feel the right answer for you the very moment you hear about a product or service.

Oh, and one more thing: Don’t be surprised if something feels off at one point in your life and later down the road, it feels just right. Your preferences do change as your consciousness grows, which is always happening, even if you are not yet aware.

Bridging “I AM” Statements

If you have been reading my blog for a while or following me on social media, you know that I am a proponent of making affirmations *your own*. If you like a generic affirmation, great. However, most people get bored with them really fast, then blame affirmations for ‘not working’. That is a lot like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Affirmations that are customized to you are not only going to be more enjoyable to say and think (so you’ll do so more often), but they are more likely to positively shift your energy.

Today, I am delighted to share with you a personal example from Alexandra Schmithausen, a coach in Germany who recently joined Good Vibe University. After listening to one of GVU’s LOA Business Calls with Jeannette Maw, Matt O’Grady, and myself, she was inspired to play with some business affirmations for herself, then shared her results.

Alexandra used the bridging technique with affirmations, where you find a baby step or middle step from where you are to where you want to go. She graciously agreed to let me share it with you here..see my bolding below for emphasis.

Inspired by a call about identity shifting, I played around with „I am“ statements.

First I found a central one for me which felt good to think and say out loudly. As I am in the process of leveling up my business, it is „I am a very successful coach“.

Then I took some time to focus on „successful“ and define exactly, what this means to me. I wrote a long list of things that are part of being a successful coach for me – like being „well paid“ or „in high demand“. And while writing them down it felt really good and I didn’t feel any discord.

What was very interesting to me, was: When I started to make „I am“ statements with the single points of the list, I realized it felt uneasy to say something like „I am well payed“. It just felt wrong. As long, as it was „Success is – being well paid“ it worked… but „I am well paid“…

But then I found a solution, very fast. I was inspired to change the statement, by adding „this means“ to it. And suddenly it felt REALLY GREAT to say it! „I am a successful coach – this means I am well paid“ has no wobble in it for me at all. This way I can use it as an absolutely good feeling affirmation!

I went through the whole list like this and it was so much fun!! Afterwards I felt absolutely magnificent!!!

Isn’t grandiose? Sooo easy

AND: Evidences of my vibe shift showed up the same day! I randomly met two old friends of mine who both are very successful at their job and whom I didn’t see for quite a while. One just tapped on my shoulder while I was waiting in a line. The other one passed by on the sidewalk when I drove by and waved.

It’s easy for me to love this example — Alexandra started with a basic generic affirmation and followed what felt good for her until she was INSPIRED to find a solution that works really well for her.

I wish this for everyone who is just starting out with affirmations and wonders how to make affirmations that are truly powerful and life changing. Start with something basic that catches your attention, then play with it until it becomes *yours*, and evidence of your shift in energy will come swiftly. Connecting to the Sun?

connecting to the sunOK, this is really fascinating…at least, I hope it is as fascinating to you as it is to me!

Many of us know that the Institute of HeartMath has discovered that the human heart is the largest generator of electro-magnetic fields in the body. The heart creates an EMF Vastly greater than the brain, which was previously thought to fully “control the body”.

Science also tells us that atoms can be changed either electrically and/or magnetically. This means that the human heart, through which we feel emotions every time we think a thought, is capable of changing the atoms around us. Quantum physics concurs with this and delves further into multiple dimensions and probabilities.

Furthermore, the Earth itself has it’s own electro-magnetic field which our heart-based EMFs tap into.

Add to this information, this astonishing video…

Pilots knew about this phenomenon, but they were afraid to share this information for fear it would put their mental fitness in question. Scientists admit they don’t understand the lightning that happens on the Earth, let alone what happens in the atmosphere. However, NASA has found there is an electro-magnetic connection between the Sun and the Earth. The clouds, it appears, act as a kind of circuit-breaker that protects the Earth from potentially catastrophic lighting in the ionisphere. Well, at least from the electrical effects…what about the magnetic affects?

Many indigenous cultures refer to Mother Earth and Father Sun, fully honoring and recognizing the conscious connection that exists between the two.

Law of Attraction is based on the idea that, in this vibrational universe, everything is energy and we are all connected. The fact that our emotions connect us to the Earth which is also connected to the Sun, it’s not hard to imagine that our Sun and entire solar system is connected energetically with the rest of the Universe and multiverses!

Those of us who are finding their sleep and rest cycles disturbed by the most active Solar Flares may not be surprised by this connection. In fact, it might be a relief to have a better idea how the Sun is affecting humans on Earth.

It fascinates me that Science is catching up with what the ancient and indigenous cultures have been saying for eons! In the past, we had to accept these concepts on faith alone. I LOVE that Science is helping us examine the nuts and bolts, rubber-meets-the-road understandings of the ancient wisdom!

WTF?

WTF - What's The Feeling?

When I am working with clients who are distressed about not experiencing what they prefer, it’s relatively easy for me to see what’s going on because I am not emotionally caught up in the experience. (This is just one of the reasons we all benefit from working with teachers, mentors, and/or coaches…they can help us see and navigate issues that we are too close to emotionally.)

First thing you have to remember is that: When there is emotional discord, it is a signal that what we are thinking is discordant with the goal we have in mind.

Caught in the emotional web, we often cannot see where we are creating discord in our thoughts and feelings. As Einstein said, you cannot solve a problem with the same energy that created the problem. Quantum Physicists say that when two or more vibrations match up, they are “coherent”. Coherent energy is the opposite of discordant or incoherent energy. The energy of the problem and the energy of the solution are discordant, not coherent.

In order to solve your problem, you must get into vibrational coherence with the energy of the solution. Here is a quick tip for those discordant moments when you want to release the negative energy get back on track with positive energy. I call this tip: WTF? It is a reminder to ask the question: What’s The Feeling? Yeah, I bet that’s not what you thought it meant. 😉

Step 1:  Take out a piece of paper. Draw a line sideways on the paper half-way down to break it into two sections. At the top of both sections, write: WTF?

Step 2: In the top section, write down how you are currently feeling...dump all the raw emotions inside of you out onto this piece of paper. As soon as you begin to acknowledge how you are truly feeling you are in a better position to release that energy.

Step 3:
On the bottom half of the paper, answer the question: What’s the Feeling of my preferred outcome? Usually, we only want to experience something because we think it will feel better than what we are currently feeling. So, tap into the feeling you anticipate that your preferred outcome will evoke in you. Immerse yourself in what that would look, sound, and feel like to you and write that down.

Step 4: Compare the feelings from the top and bottom sections. If you are feeling unhappy, it is because you want the feeling in the bottom section but you are stuck in the feeling of the top section. Now you can clearly see WHY you are feeling discordant: too much of your attention has been focused where you don’t want it and not enough has been on the feelings that you want to evoke.

Step 5: It’s time to let go of the energy that is creating the discord: tear or cut off the top part of the paper and dispose of it (crumple it up, burn it in a safe container, or throw it out).

Step 6: Refocus your energy. With the bottom half of the paper remaining, ask yourself how you can begin feeling more the way you know you want to feel. If an answer comes immediately, do it. If it doesn’t, trust that the answer will show up and you will be ready for it when it does! One idea: use the list of feelings that are coherent with your desire(s) to create your own powerful customized affirmations.

As you focus your attention MORE on the feeling you desire, you move yourself vibrationally into coherence with that desire. Your emotions are an indicator of where you are focusing your thoughts and feelings. They are truly a divine gift to help you see where you need to get into vibrational coherence.

I am inviting you to begin asking yourself this question, all day, every day. This could quite possibly the most important question you can ask yourself throughout the day: WTF? = What’s The Feeling? What am I feeling right now? What feeling is closest to what I want to experience? What can I do to focus on the feeling I want to evoke?

Now you have a new meaning for WTF…one that can help you get back on track vibrationally. Share below your comments and suggestions for getting into coherent feelings.

Getting the Most from Business Advice

I’ve been inspired to share this insight with you today.

You have probably noticed that I don’t write blog posts every day, every week or even every month. There is an important reason for this beyond the fact that there are already a myriad of free resources on this site. I used to write more often, and all of it is available in the archives, but I’ve learned the importance of only taking inspired action. In the meantime, I remain quiet to become aware and allow my intuition to show me when it’s time to take the action of sharing insights.

Let’s back up a moment and look at thoughts and actions from a vibrational point of view.

Everything we perceive starts first as pure consciousness—as a thought that may eventually become more thought, word, energy, or inspire actions. Pure consciousness is formless and ever-present, ready to respond and be transformed by our energy. Since we live in a vibrational universe (yes, that includes the full spectrum of sounds we can hear as well as those we cannot), the vibration or resonance of the formless consciousness has a direct effect on the resulting thoughts, words, energy or actions. Furthermore, our beliefs are additional filters through which the pure consciousness passes on its way to generating an effect.

Therefore, it doesn’t matter if you take the same actions as other people, your results will reflect the consciousness you are flowing.

For instance, a belief that certain clients are always difficult will skew pure consciousness on its way to effecting new thoughts, words, energy or actions related to acquiring new clients or managing existing clients. No matter what actions you take they will result in you experiencing those certain clients as difficult. It must, because the lens through which you are perceiving consciousness is directing it to be so. Law of Attraction is always vibrationally lining us up with our consciousness so that we prove our beliefs as *right*. Until we change our beliefs and the consciousness we are flowing, nothing else will change.

Seems like wherever you turn, there are people dishing out one-size-fits-all business advice based on their point of view or what worked for them (or others) in the past. Everyone has an opinion on how you should run your business. This is beyond crazy-making for business owners who want to find the right solutions. What worked for one person at one time in their life may not work for another person, or even the SAME person at a different point in their life. Why is that? Because the vast majority of business advice is offered with little, if any, attention paid to the consciousness that accompanies their point of view or experience.

Even if it makes absolutely NO sense for your business or for you as the business owner! Taking action is so much less important than being aware of and conscious of the energy you are flowing.

Andrew Carnegie, once the richest industrialist in 1900s America and the man who inspired Napolean Hill to write his powerful book, Think and Grow Rich, understood this important nuance. Andrew, along with his cousins, was first taught this concept by his Uncle in his native Scotland. On his way to building some of the largest and most profitable companies in his time, Andrew asked questions and listened to answers, but he never took action unless it felt right to him. Even if everyone else was doing it, Andrew took the time to become aware of his own thoughts and feelings, to listen to his intuition, and only take inspired actions on any decision.

There are a few people who truly understand this, and those are the people who do not give out one-size-fits all advice. Not everyone who is currently in business is emotionally, physically, or spiritually prepared to receive this information. Those folks may need to live more life before their own consciousness is ready for the next step. In the meantime, they will read or listen to the surface words and never understand the profound underlying teachings.

Fortunately, if you are reading this blog post, you have a leg up on the majority! Here are 3 simple steps to invest your time and attention so you may begin to do to get the most from any business advice:

1. Start with Awareness Awareness is a form of pure consciousness and it has amazing healing powers. Choosing to become aware of a story we are telling, or a feeling inside of us (even when we cannot attach words to it), or an action we are taking can help us see what is working and what is not working for our lives and business. In order to become aware, you must first be willing to be quiet. Be silent in the stillness, and just notice what you become aware of. That’s it. No judgements. No actions. Just awareness. Incredibly powerful!

So many people are overwhelmed with the daily details of life that they think taking time to be quiet and aware is a waste or unproductive use of time. Nothing could be further from the truth! Those are the people who are forever on a rat-wheel and never able to move beyond. Invest the time in your own quiet awareness, and you’ll see your intuition blossom as you start to see your situation from an entirely new perspective*. Solutions will present themselves, and struggle will become a forgotten habit.

*Don’t be surprised when you begin to realize that every life and business dilemma is an opportunity for spiritual growth. Not religious growth – spiritual growth, growing your own consciousness, and becoming a better version of you.

2. Let intuition guide you Once awareness has opened the door to possibilities, your intuition will begin quietly pointing you toward the best solutions for you. Not the best solutions for everyone. Not even the best solutions for others in your area. Your intuition is your personal guidance, meant only for you. Listen to it and follow it, and it will reward you every time!

3. Follow the inspiration With your awareness and intuition in place, you will start to notice when an idea feels really good to you. Only take actions that feel good to you. I don’t mean good for a few minutes, then irritating or like pulling teeth the rest of the time. I mean actions that feel light and easy to you the entire way. That emotional guidance is telling you that is the direction for you to go. It might not be the right direction for everyone, but the light and easy feeling is an indication that it is right for you.

Some people will think that you are crazy for following your own intuition. Let them. They need to mind their own vibrational guidance, and let you mind yours.

Taking action when something does not feel good usually means that you are trying to force an outcome. Your consciousness is not aligned with the action, which is why it doesn’t feel good. No good result will come of effort taken that doesn’t feel good in your heart. However, recognizing and being aware when it doesn’t feel good to you is powerful information for making decisions moving forward.

With these three steps in place, if anyone offers you business advice, you will know if it’s right for you. It’s OK to take a pass. (Just like the old adage, take what resonates and leave the rest.) It’s best to follow the advice that is aligned with your intuition and inspiration. Read that last sentence again, because it’s really the only one-size-fits-all business advice that’s worth following.

Vibration or Bio-Chemical?

vibration_or_biochemical_paleoFor years now, I have understood and been teaching the power of vibrational alignment. I don’t just teach this stuff, I live it and apply it to every area of my life! This also means that much of my life is a work in progress as I move toward what I am desiring to create…each improvement leads to a new vantage point from which to decide ‘what’s next?’. This constant growing is, as they say, what keeps life force flowing through me.

Sometimes, though, life experiences have me questioning what I know to be true. Questioning everything until you receive answers that feel right can be a good thing. This time, I am questioning if the food we consume is only affected by our vibration (as some teachers say) or if there is more to the story.

Last week, I was sharing with my friend, Jeannette Maw (the Good Vibe Coach), how much I am appreciating eating Paleo (no dairy or wheat/grains) for the past 10 months *despite* the energy that I had been flowing about it when I started:

With Paleo, the energy I was flowing in advance was MAJOR SKEPTICISM shifting to MILD WONDER. That’s what I was flowing. I had heard about it for a while and thought it was just a fad. Then, someone I respect shared some resources and I began researching. I was reading a doctor’s website where he systematically showed how it was the most beneficial diet for humans, way above vegetarianism which he had also tried and found defective.

If only a fraction of the benefits that doctor listed were true, I thought it was worth trying…BUT…a huge part of me (not just my butt) didn’t think it was even possible to live without eating wheat! I’ve been a baker since a kid and couldn’t imagine *enjoying* a life without wheat/grains. Bread I might be able to pass on, but pastas, rice, cookies, cakes, doughnuts?!? NO WAY!

That’s why I set a timeline and gave myself an OUT if it was too hard. Instead, I was shocked to find it was easy! I didn’t get what I believed or was suspecting AT ALL!

There is NO WAY that this experience with Paleo was “just about my vibration”. There HAS to be more to the story…chemical…biochemical?!? It’s not about emotions either, for folks who claim you can only lose weight if you have your emotions worked out. Once I started eating Paleo, I lost more weight than ever with no effort and no emotional ‘work’.

After that, Jeannette just wrote a blog post about when our expectations don’t match results and briefly mentions our conversation as proof that I must have been flowing a positive expectation.

You see, Abraham teaches that when you enjoy your food, then it’s good for your body and you will metabolize it well (i.e., be at a good weight and feel healthy). Likewise, Abraham says, when you don’t enjoy eating food, then it’s not good for your body and you suffer the consequences.

Now, I have mostly been a meat-eater, but I started eating Vegetarian a few years ago because I *expected* it would be healthier for me. That was the intention and energy with which I approached this change in my diet, but that was not my experience. While I was eating Vegetarian, I very much enjoyed the food, yet still my brain felt muddled, I felt lethargic, and gained weight around the middle. I also pulled back on exercising because I had no energy, which compounded the weight-gain. I actually enjoy exercising, but while eating Vegetarian I’d be so worn out afterward and needed lots’o’naps! I’ve since heard that this is a common experience and a major reason why Vegetarians shift to eating Paleo.

Meanwhile, I kept hearing people rave about eating Paleo. As I mentioned to Jeannette, for almost 2 yrs, I dismissed eating Paleo as a ‘fad’, then researched it with major skepticism. Looking back, I researched it mainly to prove to myself why it was not worthy of my attention. I’m laughing as I type this realizing the vibrational discord on this subject!

In fact, I was so doubtful that when I finally decided to try eating Paleo, I set the intention for only 30 days, I gave myself an easy OUT that I would stop immediately if it didn’t feel healthy to my body.

I also made dietary modifications in advance of starting to eat Paleo! Reading that the strict Paleo can be difficult for anyone to handle if they don’t have a ‘health reason’ for sticking to it, one site recommended that we make allowances for a few foods that technically aren’t Paleo. My allowances are Greek Yogurt (technically dairy, but high in protein and probiotics) and dark chocolate. Pretty sure the cave men didn’t have chocolate but would have EATEN IT if it was a choice! 😉 I also chose to include potatoes and rice in the grain category, but allow legumes because I like them in my beef chili (with fresh diced onions and Greek Yogurt!). Mmmmmm…it’s so good!

Anyway, within the first week, with no sugar withdrawals and no feelings of deprivation, I not only LOVED it but the cravings for wheat-based foods that had been a life-long desire had vanished completely! With the cravings gone, I enjoy eating so much more and lost at least 2 dress sizes (maybe more) without effort. Eating this way is effortless for me, so maintenance is easy. Now I understand what they mean when they say it’s less a diet and more of a lifestyle choice.  My taste buds clearly have changed: 3 months later, when I saw sugary wheat or milk-based stuff, it made me gag. I remember how those baked goods tasted, but have no desire to eat it again.

With the cravings gone, I noticed that I enjoy vegetables and fruits so much more than ever before. They now taste so much better than when I was eating Vegetarian! Talk about ironic. This is NOTHING like what I was expecting or the energy I was flowing in advance. I was practically DARING it not to work!

NOW, when I look back to when I used to eat the dairy & wheat-based stuff…I LOVED THEM…even though they weren’t good for my body! I thoroughly enjoyed eating them. According to Abraham and Jeannette, they must have been really good for my body except how awful I felt. Clearly, despite loving the food, it wasn’t healthy for me.

The Deliberate Creator in me is well aware of the power of our vibration, thoughts, feelings, and emotions…but THIS experience has shown me that there is way MORE involved! Clearly, when my body got what it needed in nutrients, it figured out the rest despite my doubting vibration. Plus, I’ve heard that while a large percentage of us do well on Paleo, a smaller percentage actually does do well on the Vegetarian diet that didn’t work for me. That tells me there is also a bio-chemical issue at hand.

I recognize that with every thought, our brain cascades chemicals to the body, so there is a biochemical factor to every thought and experience. LOA purists may say that I must have been flowing a positive vibration, but I know that is not true in this instance. This experience showed me that even with major skepticism/doubt, a positive outcome can be created!

Yes, I was skeptical before I even started eating Paleo and that negative vibrational start should have had an equal affect on my experience. Still, I took each step in *good faith*, approaching each meal with the attitude of “what do I feel like eating that is Paleo-compliant?”. When I noticed at the end of the first week how easy it had been, how good my body felt (light yet fully satiated), how the hunger and bloating was gone, and how much more energy I had, I was delighted! I proceeded with that feeling of delight, and a month later when I started noticing weight loss (I no longer have a scale, so I don’t know how much), that was icing on the proverbial cake…gluten-free, of course!

Have You Been Stoking the ‘Need’?

Are you Stoking the NEEDYears ago, I knew someone who used to call me every few hours insisting that she ‘needed me’ to solve the crisis-of-the-moment. In reality, none of these crises actually existed, except in this person’s mind. Despite being fully capable of handling these crises herself, she had convinced herself that I was the *only* person who could help.

Initially, I spent copious time patiently reassuring her and answering her same questions over and over and over. Talking to her positively, encouraging her to see the bigger picture. Meanwhile, I kept wondering WHY this particular person constantly  calling with dramatic stories of needing rescue.

Then, it dawned on me.

This was a common pattern for this gal. Despite being fully qualified in many ways, she had convinced herself that she wasn’t…and that she needed others to rescue her…everyday! She was clearly carrying a story around that must have been something like:

OH, NO…I don’t think I can handle this. This is too hard! I’m not capable or smart enough to figure this out. I don’t want to be alone with this [fill in the blank problem] because there’s NO WAY I can figure it out myself. Someone else has to help me! OMG – HELP! CRISIS! DISASTER LOOMS…HELP…HELP!!!

While she unconsciously stoked the feelings of urgency, crisis, lack and ‘need’ within herself,  it was manifesting in her outer world…or, rather it appeared to her as manifesting. To me, she seemed to be anticipating problems more than actually experiencing them. Law of Attraction was lining her up with experiences that would make her right.  How we show up in the world reflects our self-talk and deepest inner beliefs.

As I type this, and reflect back on this time in my life, this person was also a mirror for me to see my own ‘need to rescue’. Since like vibrations cohere, Law of Attraction was responding to my need by lining me up with someone who needed to be rescued.

In the beginning, I was happy to be of assistance. But over time, it was no longer fun for me to interact with this friend only in this way. In fact, it was downright exhausting and it was not a functional friendship since I was only called to put out fires, not to relate as a friend.

Do you recognize yourself in either of these examples?

If you like this experience, by all means, keep creating it! If you don’t then in order for Law of Attraction to deliver something different, you have to be willing to shift your energy. That sounds tricky, but it’s not as difficult as you might think.

First, start telling a different story. Even if it’s just a softer version of the story you’ve been telling yourself, begin anew. This friend might have started by shifting her self-talk to something like, I usually like to have help, but I am a capable adult…I wonder how much of this I can resolve on my own. If I can’t figure it out by [date], then I will ask around. Then, taking any actions that she felt guided to take that aligned with the new story.

If telling the new story feels too hard, or brings up lower energies of fear, worry, and doubt, it can be helpful to use a tool like EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to address those feelings and begin to clear them before you start telling a new story.

The new story I actually told myself to shift out of this experience was I appreciate and cultivate healthy, functional friendships with kind people who are capable and helpful. Abraham has said, when we shift our own energy, our experience must shift in response. In fact, other people may meet us in the new vibration, or they may vibrate right out of our experience. In this particular situation, the person seemed to magically stop calling me, and eventually we lost touch. As I let go of the ‘need to rescue’, this person may have lost the need for help or may have connected with someone else who ‘needed to rescue’.

Second, remember times in your past when you exhibited capability. Chances are, you have many, but may not give them much mental attention. Change that now…close your eyes, remember those times, and feel how it feels in your body. Remember this feeling so you can call it up when feeling capable is desired.

Third, look without attachment for evidence that your new story is materializing. In other words, release attachment but allow the evidence to reveal itself to you.

Finally, practice. The next time you are feeling needy, remember this is a golden opportunity to practice a new vibration. Practice makes perfect, so remember the new story and implement it. Call up the memories from the past, and remember the evidence all around you.

Get Sucked Into the Vortex of Love and Appreciation

Since my last post was about expressing appreciation, I’ve decided to expand more on different ways we can express our appreciation. appreciation_vortex

Of course, there are many ways express appreciation, including reaching out to others in words, writing, and voice to let them know how you feel. Whatever feels good for you to do, will also feel good to the recipient. As much as it feels good when others recognize us for a job well done or appreciate us for being in their lives, it might even feel BETTER to let others know we feel that way about them! A win-win all the way around.

When we express appreciation, we add more power to the vortex of love energy that is the basis of our universe.

My son is a pretty vocal opponent of the Law of Attraction and many of the metaphysical teachings that others appreciate me sharing. Perhaps it’s typical that children will abhor that which their parents represent. I’d say he doth protest too much: My son will openly tell me he thinks it’s all hooey, yet he beams with delight when his teachers openly appreciated my blank affirmation cards. What’s more interesting, he’s often exhibiting the exact behaviors I recommend to my clients!

Here’s a perfect example: It’s not uncommon to hear my son walking around the house randomly rampaging his appreciation for his job and his employer. He really doesn’t care if anyone hears him. He froths himself up with sheer joy and appreciation on a regular basis. The more he talks about what a great opportunity it is for him, and how much he appreciates that opportunity, and what a fantastic, well-run company he works for, and how LUCKY and HONORED he feels to be part of the organization… the more he FEELS that appreciation within himself! Not only does he benefit, but anyone in earshot benefits from this contagious full-blown rampage of appreciation!

Just listening to him, I start to smile and whether I agree with him or not, it doesn’t matter because I’m feeling good noticing all that I appreciate in my world! Listening to anyone rampage their appreciation, it’s hard not to be joyfully sucked into the positive energetic vortex of love!

When a person’s energy shifts the energy of those around them, it’s termed “entrainment”. When you consciously choose to rampage verbally (or non-verbally) around others, those around you who are open to feeling better will pick up on your higher vibration and find themselves being entrained to your vortex of love and appreciation.

Don’t take my word for it…try it yourself! Make a choice each day to rampage your appreciation (out loud, if you dare, or internally), then notice the attitudes and behaviors of people around you.

Try it on your clients, vendors or colleagues. Once you start to see the shift, you may be inspired to begin rampaging around the more difficult people in your life.
