Creating Your Spirit-Guided Business

spiritHave you ever wondered how Spirit can help you grow, nurture, and sustain your business?

If you’re caught up in the day-to-day process of identifying, connecting with, and serving clients, processing payments, managing projects and vendors, you might have lost track of the spiritual connection with your business. I get it. I’ve been there, too.

Even with the most spiritual business there are still physical logistics and details that must be organized, managed, and overseen. How do we handle those when we’re not sure which decision is best?

Let Spirit Guide Your Business

When growing and running your business begins to feel like a never-ending chore, it can be the perfect time to step back and tap into Divine energy. Regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs, or the terms we use, most of us can agree there is One Energy Source from which is created All That Is.

That energy source can be a integral part of our business and all its components. As human beings, especially the founders of businesses, we can get stuck thinking we must know it all and have all the answers all the time. Yet the omnipresent and omnipotent Source / Spirit actually DOES know it all and have all the answers! Answers and perspectives we cannot not possibly know from our vantage point. Nor can we access it from a state of frustration or fear.

In his classic book, The Abundance Book, one of the most important premises that John Randolph Price wrote was the concept that no person, place, or condition is our supply:
spiritEmbracing the expansive consciousness that Spirit is our Supply—not our business or our customers/clients, is an important part of allowing Spirit to support, nurture, and sustain our growing businesses.

When we recognize that everything comes from One Source, and that One Source is our ultimate Supply, it changes how we view business situations, climate, interactions, transactions, and outcomes. Our own energy about our business changes. Clients/Customers as well as vendors and support members come and go as part of a positive energy alignment process. Everyone in the process is served well. Where a vacuum is created, something even better will take it’s place. Overall, it becomes increasingly easier to trust that Spirit’s wider perspective is helping us in ways we might not be able to foresee. As a result, we develop a deeper faith in our business success.

How to Invite Spirit Into Your Business

It’s easier to invite Spirit in than you might think, but first there are a few things to release:

A. Start by letting your ego take a backseat. By admitting that you cannot have the full perspective that Spirit has, you can let your ego off-the-hook for ‘being in control’, ‘knowing it all’, and ‘having all the answers’. Actually, it feels wonderful!

B. Cultivate a Willingness to Be Guided. To an outsider, this might look a little like giving up, but the energy is very different. Giving up can come from frustration and feeling like a failure, whereas a willingness to be guided is energetically opening up to guidance and wisdom to which you currently do not have access. You can do this by:
– Silently offering your questions to Spirit and asking for guidance
– Journaling your questions to Spirit, writing down what comes to you in response
– Affirmatively praying appreciation for Spirit’s presence, and for all wisdom coming forward on this subject
– Lighting a candle, or holding a crystal, as you cultivate the feeling of already receiving Spirit’s guidance and give thanks
– Use Abraham-Hick’s Placemat Process to write down what you need the Universe to help you accomplish (and be willing to let it go, knowing it’s taken care of)
– Starting and ending your business day with a 10-minute meditation to align yourself with Spirit’s guidance and involvement in your business decisions

C. Appreciate when Answers, Solutions, and Opportunities Arise. Mindfully appreciate the support that is coming through. Some of us might not notice it *in the moment*, but when it comes into our awareness we say, “Thank you, Spirit!” Give thanks in advance, as well. Regularly AFFIRM your receipt and appreciation for all the insight Spirit sends your way. The more you acknowledge the support you are receiving, the more Law of Attraction brings additional support into your awareness.

D. Do not Argue With / Resist What You Don’t Like. When answers, solutions, and opportunities show up like losing a big client or seeing a door close, do your best not to argue with or resist what shows up. Instead, ask “Spirit, how is this a blessing for my business?” and notice what comes up. If you get stuck energetically in resisting what shows up, you might miss the blessing that is coming right behind! When a big client goes away, a bigger and better one often shows up. When a door closes, something better is about to enter. Be ready, energetically, to receive!

E. Keep Spirit in the Loop. Many business owners begin inviting Spirit in when our business is struggling. When things start going really good with our business, it can be easy to forget this process and stop inviting Spirit to join you. However, when things start to spiral downward, you’ll be reminded why this is a process to continue for the entire life of your business. Keep it going, even when it doesn’t look like your business could get any better than it already is!

Now, I want to know: Do you let Spirit guide your business? If not, are you ready to start?

Making It Easier

easierMaking It Easier

Ahhh…do you feel the ease in that statement? I realize “easier” is not the message most of us are accustomed to hearing, when it comes to our businesses, but bear with me. Starting and building your business can be easier and more fun than you have been taught or might have imagined.

If you’ve been struggling to start or build your business, it’s possible that you have been reading and listening to experts who make it seem difficult and complicated. Without knowing what step to take next, the whole process can feel overwhelming. Most of the business experts, themselves, share and compare business hardship stories as if that is the only way successful businesses function.

Emphasis on ‘Easier’

Businesses have their trajectories, which are a reflection of the owner/leader’s energy. The focus of this post is on EASE: There are many tips and tools that we can combine to make the process of starting and running a business easier.

If you’ve grown up hearing other ‘grown ups’ talk about business, likely they were talking about how hard it was to find clients, get paid, grow their business. What they affirmed (hardship) was confirmed to them, so in their minds, they were right.

Self Check-In:
What are you affirming / confirming about your business with your words, thoughts, feelings, and actions?

The energy generated from your words, thoughts, and feelings drive your actions, and the resulting outcome. The one(s) who line up energetically, SEE, FEEL, and KNOW themselves as successful before they take any actions toward their business are more likely to experience successful outcomes.

This is why two people can start the same business in the same city, but one succeeds while the other fails before they even open their doors. What you hold to be true about your business in your words, thoughts, and feelings establishes how you will experience your business.

First, Alignment!

Before you take another action toward your business, get into alignment with your success:

• SEEING: In your mind’s eye, your imagination, practice seeing yourself successful. Imagine you are in your place of business, or at a networking event meeting new clients. See your schedule filling up with a list of great clients. If this feels awkward, keep doing it until it feels natural.

• FEELING: Notice how you feel when you’re imagining your successful and thriving business. How do you feel when you’re working, when you’re reviewing your financials, when you’re paying bills, dealing with vendors and clients/customers? What do your successful business days feel like, and what do you feel at night as you’re drifting off to sleep?

• KNOWING: As you practice seeing and feeling your success, and the idea of success and the feeling of success will become second-nature to you. This is when you are ready to begin knowing within yourself that even if you don’t know everything about your business…you are capable of learning, growing, and guiding your business. Knowing may initially come to you in flickers and hope-filled thoughts. That’s good! Nurture those until the knowing grows within you.

Pre-Pave Your Success

Abraham-Hicks talks about Segment-Intending as a way of pre-paving future events so they will transpire easily and joyfully. You can also use the basic concept of segment-intending to pre-pave your business success:

• Start by making a list of all the steps you know you’ll need to take with your business
– Setting up your business structure, business location
– Setting up promotional materials: website, business cards, stationery/envelopes, brochures (if any)
– Identifying potential clients and letting them know about your products / services
– Networking to meet potential clients / customers
– Speaking / Writing to increase awareness of your products / services

SEE, FEEL, and KNOW yourself taking the appropriate action in each list with ease, and with a highly successful result. In our imagination, we can ‘take the journey’ first, energetically. If it feels awkward, we’re not yet in alignment. Keep going until it feels natural, and the positive outcome feels obvious to you. Clarity and confidence will fill your being. This is on-going practice for the successful business owner.

Actions you take after getting into alignment and pre-paving will have a much better outcome and likely to feel easier, than if you are taking the same actions from fearful or frustrated energy. The feeling of the journey has a direct effect on the outcome.

Address Your Fears

When I first started my illustration and design business, I realized that I was literally afraid to ‘sell’ my services. Selling would be important to my business success, so I had to address it if I was going to move forward.

Fortunately, before I started my business, I had (even before knowing about these processes) FELT myself highly successful. I didn’t know HOW, I just felt that I would be and I milked that feeling long before I took action. So, when I realized my fear around selling I immediately sought resources that could help me. A book on marketing one’s services gave me the tools I needed and my confidence began to build. I saw myself successfully identifying possible clients, educating them about my services and how to reach me, and then letting those businesses decide if they would like to hire me. My job was to market / educate. This took the ‘sales’ pressure off, and I felt ready to move forward.

Within a few days, I was making cold-calls to area businesses who might need my services. Of my total list of 50 potential clients, 2 of them called me back to hire me then, and for years afterward. None of that would have happened had I not addressed what I feared, and pre-paved a positive outcome!

Know that you can make starting and growing your business easier using the tools I’ve shared here. You ARE capable of starting, running, and thriving with your business!

For the past decade I have specialized in working with female healing and creative solo- and entrepreneurs in various stages of starting or growing their businesses. Are You Functioning Optimally?

functioningAre You Functioning At Your Best?

How you feel physically affects how you feel emotionally, and how you feel both physically and emotionally has a trickle-down effect on how you experience life and running your own business.

This is particularly problematic for solopreneurs and freelancers who are the primary ‘workers’ in their own businesses. If you don’t do the work, take the actions, then your business will falter.

If your mind is frequently clouded, or you don’t have the energy to take inspired action, it could be that your body is not functioning optimally and that includes your brain. When the body is not getting what it needs, neither is the brain!

Functioning Optimally

Starting today, practicing Functional Medicine physician and 10X New York Times best-selling author, Mark Hyman, MD, is releasing the first of 8 videos inoptimally his docuseries, Broken Brain. (You can sign up for this free online series at BrokenBrain.com or by clicking the white logo.) The series addresses the simple, easy, and inexpensive choices we can make every day to feel better and function optimally. I am not an affiliate and I get nothing for sharing this with you other than knowing that this important information is getting out.

As a Deliberate Creator, I don’t care for the title of this series because it implies that a part of us is broken, which I don’t believe is actually possible. There’s too much perfection built into the human body system for it to be permanently ‘broken’. Ultimately, that’s exactly what Dr. Hyman and the other experts in this series are illustrating: When the body gets the simple things it needs, it functions optimally!

When I watched the first episode of this series, it was clear to me that Dr. Hyman is referring to how the medical establishment sees the related problems of Alzheimer’s, Dementia, ADHD, Autism, Depression, Anxiety, and Brain Fog. Traditional medicine treats ALL of those issues as if it is solely the problem of the body part, the brain. Functional Medicine, which is featured in this series, views the entire system of the body and recognizes how the brain can be effected when the rest of the system is out of balance.

Click the graphic below to watch the highlight reel from this series:
DID YOU KNOW?
When you feel anxious, it might be due to having low blood sugar? Try first eating protein and fats. If you have low blood sugar, you will immediately calm your anxiety.

I’m sharing this series with you because I know first-hand the importance of what Dr. Hyman is sharing. In 2012, I personally healed myself of brain fog, increase my energy exponentially, easily (effortlessly) lost weight, and returned my body to functioning optimally using many of the techniques he speaks of in this series. It was like a heavy veil had been lifted from me. When you have that kind of life-changing experience, you want to share it with others!

You can sign up for the free series now, where the videos are each available for 24hrs after release, and (if you haven’t already) watch the highlight reel while you wait for the next video.

I am not an affiliate of Dr. Hymans and I get nothing from sharing this information with you other than making sure this important information gets out to the world. (This is also how the U.S. could begin saving TONS of money by overhauling it’s outdated and non-functional medical system.)

Subconscious Mind Patterns

subconscious

Have you noticed the same situations happening again and again with your business?
Do you wonder why you are having similar issues recur with clients or vendors?
When was the last time you asked, “Why does this keep happening?

Brain research estimates that our conscious mind is only aware of about 10% of what happens around us and in our thoughts. The vast majority, 50-60% it is estimated, takes place below the conscious level in the subconscious mind.

Bringing the Subconscious Mind to the Light

The 50-60% of our mind that is subconscious is running mental programming 24/7. This part of our mind uses our memory, knowledge, and experiences to make decisions for us. By bringing subconscious beliefs to our conscious attention, we can decide what to keep and what to transmute.

Not all subconscious beliefs need to be transmuted, as helpful beliefs support us in moving through the world without having to consciously address everything. However, most of us through the process of living have some unhelpful subconscious programming that could use some conscious transmutation.

This is because when we were younger, and before we could speak or advocate for ourselves, we made decisions and developed beliefs that became part of our unhelpful subconscious mind programming.

For instance, a child who felt fearful and began crying may have been admonished by the parents for making noise (crying). The parent’s objection may have been to the noise of the crying child, but the child perceived the admonishment as disapproval, which formed a belief that they cannot freely express their fears or cry. As the child matures into an adult, an unhelpful subconscious program based on this belief continually steers them toward not expressing fear or crying.

As an adult, the ability to express our emotions is vitally important, so having a subconscious program running that is counter to our health and well-being would be helpful to uncover and transmute.

Uncovering Versus Looking For Unconscious Beliefs

It’s important for me to point out the difference between uncovering unconscious beliefs for conscious transmutation versus actively looking for unconscious beliefs. The first recognizes that our experiences have always been lovingly pointing to the answers we seek, and that we can raise our energy by being conscious of what we are shown.

The latter approach comes from a dis-empowering energy that there is something wrong with us that needs to be fixed or eradicated. That approach leads us to feel that nothing is good about us, our business, or what we offer. It might even lead us to imagining, manufacturing, and eventually manifesting, more unhelpful unconscious beliefs.

This post is about the former approach—gently and lovingly uncovering what’s already before us. Using our conscious awareness to understand the lesson, and then consciously choosing a new story, a new attitude, a new belief that better supports us and our business.

Subconscious Patterns

subconsciousHave you ever considered ways that unhelpful subconscious mind patterns are working 24/7 in your business?

Bringing subconscious mind patterns to light so we can consciously choose to transmute them is a powerful way for business owners to shift their energy and succeed.

In his 3CD Workshop entitled, The Millionaire Course: A Visionary Plan for Creating the Life of Your Dreams, the author shares examples of how his poverty thinking had been running a program in his subconscious for decades. (If you missed my post with Marc Allen’s interview, you can watch it here.)

Now a mult-millionaire, Marc Allen, author, musician, and founder of New World Library is happy to teach others how to bring their subconscious core beliefs into the light for conscious re-consideration.

Addressing Your Core Beliefs Process

In his workshop, Allen shares a process for shedding light on the subconscious programming that is running in the background of our consciousness. I recommend this process for all business owners as an empowering way to bring unconscious programming to conscious light.

I also recommend that this tool be used on a frequent basis—quarterly, at a minimum. Make the experience enjoyable by setting some quiet time aside, turn on some music, grab a cuppa something you enjoy, then have a nice journal or a new pen handy to write out your answers. The more you do this process, the more you’ll easily see what unhelpful subconscious programming has been working on your business with you.

Don’t be surprised if something you wish you’d known about before emerges after a while of using this process. When you’re ready to release the programming that is no longer serving you, those thoughts/beliefs will appear and become obvious to you. You will know immediately that it’s time to let them go and be ready to do so.

Personally, it has helped me be a more conscious business owner, develop better relationships with clients and vendors, nip problems earlier rather than later, make decisions from an energetically clearer place, and tell a better story about my business.

Here is the process Marc Allen offers in his workshop:

  1. Describe the ‘problem’ as you perceive it to be at the present moment?
  2. What (specific) emotions are you feeling at the present moment?
  3. What specific physical sensations are you feeling in your body?
  4. What are you thinking about right now? (What is your current self-talk?)
  5. What’s the worst that can happen? Then, the next worst that can happen? and the next worst?
  6. What’s the best that can happen? The next best thing that can happen? and the next best?
  7. What fears and limiting beliefs have been revealed in the answers above?
  8. Create an affirmation to refocus each fear and limiting belief.

I recommend creating as many affirmations as you feel comfortable working with at a given point. Personally, I often choose 3 – 5 at a time, so that when I say the affirmations in succession I can feel the powerful *new story* emerging within me. Since we are ALWAYS affirming something, being conscious about what you are saying and thinking is very empowering.

As business owners tell a new story, and consciously shift our thinking from the unhelpful to the helpful, we begin to feel an energetic shift that is reflected in our business experiences.

Letting Meaning Find You

meaningMeaning. Fulfillment. Purpose.

We’ve all heard those buzzwords for career and business.

They are used so often it makes us wonder if our career or business is only valid if it involves experiencing meaning, fulfillment and purpose.

So many people spend their time continually ‘chasing’ these experiences, never quite finding them, stuck in the cycle of flailing action, constantly wondering what they have to do next in order to actually experience them.

It’s exhausting to think what some people do to feel…meaning…fulfillment…and purpose in their career and business. It begs the question, what part of our mind decides that we’re experiencing meaning, fulfillment and purpose? Or not experiencing them?

Lately, I’ve been noticing people who are doing amazingly good, powerful, impactful work in the world…work that is really making a difference…and the common thread: All of them came to this work (career or business) through contrast.

Rather than consciously ‘deciding’ to do this work, the work itself pulled them forward into the next necessary step in their career.

The Pull Toward Success

For instance, Barry Kibrick, the host of the book-reviewing series, Between the Lines with Barry on PBS (in the U.S.), recently admitted that the only reason his author interview show began was because of a previous failed business deal. Out of failure came a new career that has given him greater visibility and helping authors as well as readers.

Another example: Suzanne Somers, who found herself the most popular character on the most post popular TV show in the 1970s being let go at the time of her contract renewal. This career bump could have derailed her, but instead she began following her own interest in health and well-being, researching topics of personal interest that later became resources for her best-selling books. Now she’s considered very knowledgeable on the topic of nutrition, health, and wellness. Twenty six books, fourteen of which have been NYT best-sellers. In addition, she now sells a wide range of products that support what she has learned and shared in her books, and she has a secondary career as a lecturer.

Suzanne Somers is heads a business empire that wouldn’t have been created if her TV career had continued on its original trajectory.

How about Leah Remini!?! After a mildly successful acting career, Leah has finally hit a home run after she began transmuting her pain of abruptly leaving Scientology (having been raised as and living as a devout member for about 34 years) into an opportunity to help others leave or better yet, never enter this organization (what many are calling a cult). She wrote a book about her experience, entitled Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, and publicly supported the HBO Documentary Going Clear.

Then, she created the powerful A&E show, Leah Remini: Scientology and The Aftermath, now in it’s second season and recipient of a well-earned 2017 Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Informational Series or Special. Leah and her team has created one of the most powerful, impactful and important TV series I have ever witnessed*.

*Please Note: I was not raised in a cult, so I personally find the series extremely empowering, literally watching people take back their power and regain their voices!!! If you were raised in a cult, though, you might find that it triggers deep negative emotions. Your mileage may vary.

Ms. Remini has transmuted her own pain while also educating the rest of the population about how Scientology works, and what to expect if they went down that road. This not only helps us understand the issues, but develops compassion for the people who have been victimized and rebuilding their lives after leaving this organization. Remini’s new ‘work’ is educating the masses while giving former Scientologists a voice and emotional support. I feel like CHEERING during and after every episode I watch! I can see this getting better and better as time goes on.

Meaning, Fulfillment and Purpose Found Them!

None of these great examples made a conscious decision to get into their existing fields. Meaning, fulfillment and purpose found them! As a result, they are all having much greater impact on the world than if their original careers had worked out as planned.

If you’ve been derailed, deflated, frustrated or exhausted trying to ‘make’ your current career or business thrive, take heart. These examples show you that something even better may be just around the corner.

Perhaps the key to really finding meaning, fulfillment, and purpose is: Don’t chase meaning, fulfillment, or purpose. Let it FIND you!

Solving the ‘Unsolvable’

unsolvableDo you feel your creative or healing business has unsolvable problems…the kind that seem to keep your mind going in circles?

You’d like to make more money, but you don’t feel you can raise your rates or attract more customers / clients.

You need to find better vendors to support you, but seem to have exhausted all resources in your area.

You know your business offers great value to potential clients, yet every attempt to reach them seems to fail.

The circular thinking keeps us energetically stuck, and our business doesn’t move forward. What’s really going on here? Are the problems truly ‘unsolvable; or is there a way out of the cycle of problems?

Solving the ‘Unsolvable’

A Course in Miracles (ACIM) tells us that there is really only ONE problem, and all our problems are outcroppings of this one belief: We believe we are separate from Source Energy / God / All That Is. In our forgetting our connection with the Infinite Divine, we allow ourselves to believe we have unsolvable problems.

Actually, ACIM says it’s our mind ~ our ego, specifically ~ that manufactures unsolvable problems to keep us preoccupied and distracted from our connection to Source. In that respect, the ego often succeeds until we become consciously aware.

When I first heard this, it didn’t make sense to me. But then, I started noticing the steady stream of seemingly unsolvable issues that began cropping up for me in my business. When one problem was somehow miraculously solved, another one was soon making an appearance. I realized that this is exactly what ACIM is saying!

Once I reconnected with Source, I noticed that both my labeling any situation a ‘problem’, and the conviction that I was right (and the need for vindication) about how difficult the situation had become were keeping me stuck and unable to find viable solutions.

As long as our attention is on the struggle, we are not energetically aligned with any solutions.

(I keep typing ‘soulution’, and then correcting the typo, but I’m sure that’s not a coincidence!)

As long as we believe any solution is *outside of us*…something we have to seek, then we fail to recognize our innate power: To connect with Infinite Divine and receive the answers internally.

Just because we’re in business for ourselves doesn’t mean that our connection to the Divine ends at the start of business hours. If you’re in a cycle with your business of unsolvable problems, know the ego is involved.

Spiritual teacher Adyashanti has said that the ego is addicted to identification (labeling), to thinking (using only the mind to solve problems), and attachment to thought/thinking (needing know and to be right). He said, “this is a fiction created by circular thoughts and beliefs, what ACIM calls the ‘unsolvable problems’.

Thoughts and thinking have their place, but the unsolvable problems find resolution when we reconnect with Source. In doing so, the brain relaxes, the solutions present themselves, and we remember it’s not up to us to ‘figure it all out’.

Emotional Guidance Scale

The way out is first to become consciously aware of the cycle of problems, and then use the awareness to connect you with your emotions.

Emotions are always communicating with us, letting us know where we are energetically. When we feel good, those emotions are telling us that we are in alignment with Source Energy. Solutions are easier for us to see and identify, and all organs of our body are functioning optimally, when are energetically in a good feeling place.

Abraham-Hicks Emotional Guidance Scale is a tool that reminds us that when we’re feeling lower on the vibrational scale, we’re still aligned with the problem(s) and our brain is not functioning at it’s optimal. We cannot see the vast array of solutions Source has available for us.

When I say ‘feeling good’, I am talking about a sustained feeling of lightness and appreciation. If you feel good for just a few minutes, then feel bad again, such as when you feel like taking revenge, it’s a sign that you’re still at the lower end of the vibrational scale.

If you’ve been at the lower end of that scale for a while, you may need to give your self a break from the subject—take a walk in nature, cuddle with your beloved pet, take a nap, listen to a guided meditation—and come back to it when you’re feeling better.

Invoke Easy World, and take a mental break. Give yourself a weekend or a week off of worrying and mentally spinning.

ACIM instructs us to give the question to Source / God / All That Is by saying, out loud or silently:

Take this thought and judge it for me, return to me thoughts of peace and well-being.

Or tell yourself quickly:

Let me recognize this problem so it can be solved.

Then try to suspend all judgment about what the problem is. If possible, close your eyes for a moment and ask what it is. You will be heard and you will be answered.

When we stop trying to ‘think’ the solutions into being, we’ll feel better, our mind will be more relaxed, and we’ll move into energetic alignment with the solutions of Source.

The good news about energy is that it can always shift. Nothing is set in stone— unless we believe it is. We can always work our way back up the vibrational scale and revisit any subject from a higher energy vantage point. When you do, you’ll understand the power of positive energy.

How have you handled your ‘unsolvable’ problems? Share your experiences and suggestions below for others to benefit.

Preparing for the New Year

New Year Transition

It’s that time of year again.

As everyone finalizes their holiday shopping, and settles into the final few weeks of the year, business owners start to contemplate what the new year has to offer.

Some business owners view the future with excitement, a light heart, and joyful anticipation. While some are overwhelmed with fear, doubt, worry, and trepidation.

Why is that?

For centuries, business experts have recommended ongoing planning and forecasting as a part of running a successful business. Basically, they believe that a whole lotta focus on ‘what is’ will help improve business. Deliberate Creators, however, understand that left-brained what-is-focused business planning has its limits. Fire up your spreadsheets and business data, all you want, but there’s more than *facts* deciding outcomes.

How Our Energy Affects Our Business Planning

Energetically, all businesses reflect how the business owner feels (thoughts + emotions) about all aspects of the business, products/services, clients, working conditions, employees (if applicable), and so forth. If there are employees and business partners, then their energy is also a part of this mix.

Because I know this, I consciously make business planning a relaxed, easy, and joyful experience. As I take action on those plans, the results will have that same relaxed, easy, joyful energy.

Every 90 days or so, I take some quiet time for a planning and forecasting session. I review my business targets and imagine what I’d like to experience moving forward. It won’t surprise you that the majority of time during these sessions is spent getting into the feeling place of ALREADY experiencing my targets.

During these planning sessions, I have candles lit, relaxing music playing, my kitty cat slumbering nearby, and ensure I’m in a relaxed and appreciative energy for pre-paving my future. This way, my mind is open, clear, and most receptive to good ideas.

If I’m not sure about my targets or what I want to create, I spend a few minutes doing Pure Awareness meditation to still my mind and raise my vibration before I remember how Source views me and my business. This is enough to put me in a fabulous energy field for imagining my highest excitement for my business.

If I only focused on the left-brain data and planning for my business, I might get stuck in What-Is-ville —never seeing a viable way out of quagmires.

My Silent Business Partner

new yearOver the years, I’ve learned that the energy with which I make decisions and take actions is mirrored back to me in the result.

Like that time when I was not sure what a design client was really looking for, and spent most of the project time swimming in doubt as I questioned all my creative choices, only to have the client question me with the SAME DOUBT (verbatim) when she reviewed the project!

GULP.

That’s when I remembered that the energy that creates worlds is always my silent business partner (and yours, too!). That experience taught me to get clear about being of excellent service, being guided to the right choices, and opening to the intuitive knowing of my client’s unspoken needs. When I do, the resulting work thrills the client! (That has been my secret to ‘exceeding client expectations’ all these years.)

So…once my environment is set, and the planning session begins, I start answering these questions:

  1. What do I appreciate most about my business? (I milk this)
  2. What would I like to expand in my business? (I reach for what feels better)
  3. What am I ready to release in my business? (I follow my guidance)
  4. What am I willing and ready to receive help with as I move forward? (ditto)
  5. How do I expect to feel once my business has expanded (2, above), I’ve released what no longer serves (3, above), and I’ve received help (4, above)? (paint the picture)
  6. What can I do now to feel that way (5, above)?
  7. After spending a few minutes feeling the feeling of 5 and 6, above, I ask: What additional inspired actions come to mind? (Write it down)

Number 1 puts me in appreciative energy. Number 2 – 4 provides my next quarterly ‘targets’, and 5 – 6 help me tap into that energy. Finally, Number 7 is actually ongoing. Whatever information comes to me in the session, I write down, and take the action that feels like the next logical step.

Hours, days, or even weeks later, additional inspirations will spring up in my awareness. Some may feel completely unrelated. Like calling a friend. Or going grocery shopping. Yet, by following the inspiration, I will meet, talk with, or discover something that helps improve my business.

Your turn! What do you do to prepare for the new year? Share your comments and suggestions below…

Embracing Your Seeds of Opportunity

seeds

Seeds germinate in the darkness, and push their way up through the soil until they finally see the light of day. Nature is constantly showing us the value of going within, and working our way through the darkness toward the light.

None of us escape the experience of pain, physical or emotional, within our lifetimes. In fact, the more we try to avoid it, the more likely we will attract more of it. (What we resist, persists.)

Abraham calls the opposite of what we want to experience (our desires) ‘contrast’. Why would all of us experience so much contrast if, as I often say, we are living in a benevolent universe?

All contrast, all pain has a purpose and a value.

Seeds of Opportunity

Think and Grow Rich author, Napoleon Hill, is famous for his statement that, “Every nhill_seedsopportunityadversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” This is also a common mindset of successful business owners.

While many people get stuck in and on the problem, and stay there, successful business owners look at the problem as an opportunity to shift strategies and try something new. The clue to the solution is often within the problem, itself.

Here are a few clues to consider along your journey:

  • Get into the vibration of the solution. The vibration of the problem(s) and the vibration of the solution(s) are at opposite ends of the energy spectrum. So, we must first let go of the idea that a problem is permanent or unsolvable, and open our mind to all the opportunities and benefits that our contrast contains.
  • Embrace each experience. The seeds of our growth, expansion, and prosperity lie within the ability to embrace every experience that our business has to offer, from the successes to the failures, and see the opportunities. Shake off the anger, resentment, and frustration because those keep you stuck at the vibration of the problem.
  • Train your eyes to see the opportunities. If you don’t currently have eyes for the opportunities, you can train your mind to look for them. Positive, powerful, and focused affirmations train your conscious and subconscious mind to look for the positive, powerful, and focused opportunities all around you.
  • Know which opportunities are right for you. You will know which ones are right for you by how they feel. If if feels exciting, fun, interesting, intriguing…light and good…then, check it out. If it leaves you feeling heavy or depleted, it’s not for you (at this time).
  • RELAX! I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it: When we are relaxed, everything from our brains to our body functions better, and solutions come to us more quickly. Don’t know how to relax? Here’s a good place to begin: Get some rest and activate your joy list.
  • Use your knowledge to serve. After you’re rested, and have reaped the benefit from your contrast, use all the knowledge you gained from the experience to help others. In some cases, you will be paid to do this, as many healers and creatives are paid to help others. In some cases you might not, as when volunteering or when it can benefit humanity. The important part is making sure the value of the experience is harnessed and passed along to benefit others.

OK, now I want to know: How have you embraced your seeds of opportunity? Share in the comments, below.

The Key to Better Decisions

decisionsMaking good decisions is a big part of being alive, and has an even bigger role for the self-employed. Wouldn’t you love to know that you can easily improve your decision making skills while also improving your health, reducing your stress, and having more fun?!?

Sounds amazing, right. It is!

Relax Into It

As I’ve written before, there is tremendous power in relaxing on a regular basis. Research is showing us that when we’re relaxed, we think clearer. Solutions come to us quicker when we’re not stressed. Our DNA relaxes, too, opening up access to receptors that allow us to heal our body. The list of  benefits goes on. Plus, we’re also a lot more fun to be around when we aren’t stressed out of our mind.

Decisions Come with Ease

Marc Allen is a successful composer and the multi-millionaire founder of publishing house, New World Library. (He originally founded Whatever Publishing with Shakti Gawain, which later became New World Library). In this wonderful 2011 interview with Lilou Mace, Marc candidly and humorously shares his personal journey to creating and sustaining his successful business.

If you haven’t watched this before, grab your favorite drink and enjoy this inspiring conversation. (Even if you have watched it before, it’s fun to watch each time.)

Marc has thrived the most when he made regular time for relaxation, with his attention on appreciation and his custom affirmations…and struggled when he forgot his practice. As a result, he’s learned to build some serious relaxation time into his business, beginning with his unique work schedule. Marc works Tuesday through Friday, after 1pm only, and part of Saturday. The rest of the time he reserves to ensure he has plenty of time to rest, relax, and watch clouds float by. His business flourishes when he makes time for this important practice.

His examples shows that you can start a great business with little money, and grow it successfully with ease. Here’s his favorite affirmation:

Getting Out of the “How” Business

how - letting go[This article was previously published on AffirmingSpirit.com. It has been revised and updated for the enjoyment of blog-readers.]

Recently, I have written about embracing change, the power of decision, and believing in what’s possible as tools for creating powerful positive change in your life. Once you open the door to possibilities, your intuitive guidance will begin to show you options. Here is when it is critical to move past the next trap: Wanting to control “how” everything manifests.

Paralyzed by the need to control or see exactly how their wish will materialize, many folks cease taking any action. They need to know exactly how, from start to finish, they will accomplish their goal. The lack of knowing how becomes an excuse never to even begin taking action toward their desired goal. Since a clear solution does not seem available, or viable, they then conclude that their goal is simply not possible. Many goals die a quiet death in this trap.

The truth is “how” your goal manifests is not up to you…at all. That’s the job of the Universe that is orchestrating all beyond your comprehension. It’s your job to sift through all your experiences to decide what it is you really want to experience, and which of those you are really going to pursue, put yourself into the feeling of it as if it’s already manifested…AND LET GO! ‘How’ it comes about is truly the “domain of the Universe” as Mike Dooley says in the original version of The Secret DVD.

In fact, failure to let go sets us up for a vicious cycle. The more we worry about, and try to control, “how” our desires manifest, the more we are adding to the very resistance that keeps those goals at bay. Then, with proof that nothing is working, you have yet another excuse to conclude that the goal was an impossible dream.

If you’ve decided to become a conscious creator, you need to get out of the ‘how’ business. When we let go of the need to control exactly how our desires show up, we release the self-imposed limits on the possible ways our desires can manifest. As humans beings, we have a limited view of what can be accomplished, always based on what we are aware of that has already been done. Getting away from the need to know how is what is meant by “getting out of your own way”.

There’s no question that we DO benefit from pure, positive passion on your way to experience your desired goal, and the persistence to stay focused on the outcome regardless of any naysayers. That said, sometimes the very passion that drives us can cause us to want to know “how”. Successful people the world over know that you do not need to know “how” you will accomplish your goal in order to succeed. They realize that passion for the outcome and trust in the process are the big keys to successful conscious creating.

Jerry Hicks tells a story of how he and Esther had decided they wanted to take the Abraham materials to a wider audience. They happily told others about this, and when people asked how they were going to do it, they just said something to the effect of, “We don’t know right now, but we know the way will be shown.” Then, out of the (seeming) blue, Wayne Dyer and Christiane Northrup, M.D. contacted them to say how much they loved their materials and asking how they could help. Other notable authors and media people stepped forward to do the same. Louise Hay offered to publish their books to a wider audience. They were contacted by Rhonda Byrne to make The Secret movie (original version), which led to them creating their own movies and participating in Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life. Along the way, Oprah called to interview them on her XM 156 Radio show.

All this happened for them because they put their desire out to the listening Universe and spent no time trying to second-guess the energy that creates worlds. They got out of their own way. Esther and Jerry considered what they wanted, focused on that, and trusted that it would show up for them…and it did! You wouldn’t know about all of their books, movies, or YouTube videos if this hadn’t happened for them.

The “Needing-to-Know-How” Addiction
Some people have been demanding to know how for so long that they’ve become addicted to needing to know, not to mention tallying up failures of past goals that never saw the light of day.

The addiction to knowing coupled with the lack of knowing keeps them stuck, in a perpetual (and emotionally exhausting) tug of war.

At the root of needing to know how your goal will manifest is a lack of trust in the energy that creates worlds, the one single source of all we perceive as humans: The Universal Energy field, sometimes known as Source Energy, Divine Source, All that Is, or God. Quantum Physicists have identified this energy field that permeates everything that we perceive with our senses, and have determined that this field of energy responds to and is affected by our thoughts and feelings.

Quantum Physicist Fred Alan Wolfe, PhD in the movie, The Secret, said,“Quantum Physics really begins to point to this discovery. It says that you can’t have the Universe without the mind entering into it.” He goes on to explain, The mind is actually shaping the very thing that is being perceived. Experiments with particles have shown them responding as soon as particles are being observed.

Whether you view this ever-present energy field in a religious, spiritual, or a scientific way, the fact still remains: The energy that permeates all things in the universe is constantly responding to our thoughts and feelings. If you trust this, then you will find it easier to let go of the ‘how’ and let this energy source assist you. It will respond to your trust by providing your deepest heart-felt desires.

If you do not trust this source, by virtue of your lack of trust, it will reflect back to you proof that you cannot trust it. The Law of Attraction ensures that whatever we believe is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Practice Shifting and Cultivating
So, what do you do if you are addicted to needing to know ‘how’ before you proceed? Start by practicing shifting your thinking and attitudes, and cultivate trust.

• Cultivating trust is like building muscles. Develop your trust muscle so you can easily imagine yourself living the outcome you desire. Spend a few minutes each day practicing— visualizing (see, feel, know) yourself living the outcome of the goal and noticing how it feels for you.

For example, if you want a good parking spot, imagine yourself driving to the location, finding the perfect spot and pulling right in without waiting.

Notice how you feel when you are visualizing (seeing, feeling, knowing) this. Feel yourself physically there in your visualization. Then, let it go and continue with your day. Resist the temptation to get into too much mental detail because that will lead you to ask ‘how’. Instead, focus on the feeling you want and are expecting to experience. Abraham refers to this technique as pre-paving a future experience. As you find yourself stepping into a future that matches your visualization (seeing, feeling, knowing), you know it’s not a coincidence.

• Start with smaller goals until you begin to trust that Universal Energy is constantly responding to meet your requests. We tend to be less attached to emotionally to smaller goals, so use that to it’s advantage if you are just starting out. As your trust deepens, you will find it easier to begin visualizing and feeling the outcome of much larger goals. Soon, you will find yourself trusting and knowing that everything you desire will manifest for you quickly and efficiently.

• Release emotional attachment to the outcome. I realize that the more emotionally attached we are to a certain outcome, the harder it can be to let go and trust. However, if you channel that emotion away from attachment and toward your visualization, you’ll notice something remarkable. The more emotion invested in the visualization, rather than the attachment, the more you will feel as if you are already living the desire you seek.

At that point, it’s only a matter of time for it to manifest. The creation process is well underway, and ironically, you are likely to feel less attached to the final outcome because you already have the satisfaction of feeling as if you are living that reality. And that makes you, and your goal, very attractive!

Feel the Outcome as Reality
How to do this? Let me share a personal experience from my own business.

One day I realized that a client had not paid a large project invoice by the milestone date. I called their accounting department to find out when payment would be made and was told they would “pay it when they got around to paying it.” I was incensed that this client corporation had me working around the clock and was extremely demanding, but was unwilling to pay their invoices on time. Soon, I found myself arguing with their Accounts Payable rep and heard my inner voice say, “Stop. Arguing is not helping.” I forced myself to end the conversation and hang up the phone, and needless to say—I was not in a very good mood!

Realizing that my energy was so negative that I would only attract similar energy by staying there, I immediately left my office. I sought out my kitty cat who always soothed me and lifted my energy. As I petted my kitty, I felt my heart warm and completely forget why I was mad in the first place. I stayed in that loving energy for a while, as it felt so good, and then began to think about the ideal outcome for the situation. All drama aside, the ideal outcome was to have possession of the client payment and deposit it into the bank.

So, I imagined myself holding the check, walking into the bank to make the deposit. I stayed with that visualization until it felt real to me. Then, I went back to petting my sweet kitty who was soaking up all the love.

Eventually, I made it back into my office and went back to work. I had let go of the outcome and trusted that what I visualized would show up. About three hours later, I received a call that the check was in the company’s lobby for me to pick up. It was not long before I was holding that check, walking into my bank to make the deposit just as I had visualized a few hours before!!!

Was it totally easy for me to get out of the “how” and shift my anger toward more productive visualization? It is easier now than it would have been 10 years ago, but it wasn’t totally easy, and frankly I needed the help of my furry friend to truly shift my energy to a higher vibration. (Furry friends are one of our greatest gifts!)

Could I have gotten there on my own? Probably, but not as quickly. If a kitty wasn’t present, I could have turned on some good music and danced, or put my attention on someone who always lifts my spirits. While it wasn’t easy, it was doable…and the more I do it, the easier it becomes.

In my example above, as I stepped out of the ‘how’ and focused on the outcome I desired, I gave the universe permission to fulfill my request in the fastest, most efficient way possible. I was then free to follow intuitve guidance. Jack Canfield has equated this to driving from NY to California at night with your headlights on, seeing only 200 feet ahead of you at any time, trusting that the road will take you to your final destination.

Have you been paralyzed to take action because you first needed to know how you would accomplish your goal? What has helped you to get out of your own way? Share your experiences with us below, in comments…
