Subconscious Mind Patterns

subconscious

Have you noticed the same situations happening again and again with your business?
Do you wonder why you are having similar issues recur with clients or vendors?
When was the last time you asked, “Why does this keep happening?

Brain research estimates that our conscious mind is only aware of about 10% of what happens around us and in our thoughts. The vast majority, 50-60% it is estimated, takes place below the conscious level in the subconscious mind.

Bringing the Subconscious Mind to the Light

The 50-60% of our mind that is subconscious is running mental programming 24/7. This part of our mind uses our memory, knowledge, and experiences to make decisions for us. By bringing subconscious beliefs to our conscious attention, we can decide what to keep and what to transmute.

Not all subconscious beliefs need to be transmuted, as helpful beliefs support us in moving through the world without having to consciously address everything. However, most of us through the process of living have some unhelpful subconscious programming that could use some conscious transmutation.

This is because when we were younger, and before we could speak or advocate for ourselves, we made decisions and developed beliefs that became part of our unhelpful subconscious mind programming.

For instance, a child who felt fearful and began crying may have been admonished by the parents for making noise (crying). The parent’s objection may have been to the noise of the crying child, but the child perceived the admonishment as disapproval, which formed a belief that they cannot freely express their fears or cry. As the child matures into an adult, an unhelpful subconscious program based on this belief continually steers them toward not expressing fear or crying.

As an adult, the ability to express our emotions is vitally important, so having a subconscious program running that is counter to our health and well-being would be helpful to uncover and transmute.

Uncovering Versus Looking For Unconscious Beliefs

It’s important for me to point out the difference between uncovering unconscious beliefs for conscious transmutation versus actively looking for unconscious beliefs. The first recognizes that our experiences have always been lovingly pointing to the answers we seek, and that we can raise our energy by being conscious of what we are shown.

The latter approach comes from a dis-empowering energy that there is something wrong with us that needs to be fixed or eradicated. That approach leads us to feel that nothing is good about us, our business, or what we offer. It might even lead us to imagining, manufacturing, and eventually manifesting, more unhelpful unconscious beliefs.

This post is about the former approach—gently and lovingly uncovering what’s already before us. Using our conscious awareness to understand the lesson, and then consciously choosing a new story, a new attitude, a new belief that better supports us and our business.

Subconscious Patterns

subconsciousHave you ever considered ways that unhelpful subconscious mind patterns are working 24/7 in your business?

Bringing subconscious mind patterns to light so we can consciously choose to transmute them is a powerful way for business owners to shift their energy and succeed.

In his 3CD Workshop entitled, The Millionaire Course: A Visionary Plan for Creating the Life of Your Dreams, the author shares examples of how his poverty thinking had been running a program in his subconscious for decades. (If you missed my post with Marc Allen’s interview, you can watch it here.)

Now a mult-millionaire, Marc Allen, author, musician, and founder of New World Library is happy to teach others how to bring their subconscious core beliefs into the light for conscious re-consideration.

Addressing Your Core Beliefs Process

In his workshop, Allen shares a process for shedding light on the subconscious programming that is running in the background of our consciousness. I recommend this process for all business owners as an empowering way to bring unconscious programming to conscious light.

I also recommend that this tool be used on a frequent basis—quarterly, at a minimum. Make the experience enjoyable by setting some quiet time aside, turn on some music, grab a cuppa something you enjoy, then have a nice journal or a new pen handy to write out your answers. The more you do this process, the more you’ll easily see what unhelpful subconscious programming has been working on your business with you.

Don’t be surprised if something you wish you’d known about before emerges after a while of using this process. When you’re ready to release the programming that is no longer serving you, those thoughts/beliefs will appear and become obvious to you. You will know immediately that it’s time to let them go and be ready to do so.

Personally, it has helped me be a more conscious business owner, develop better relationships with clients and vendors, nip problems earlier rather than later, make decisions from an energetically clearer place, and tell a better story about my business.

Here is the process Marc Allen offers in his workshop:

  1. Describe the ‘problem’ as you perceive it to be at the present moment?
  2. What (specific) emotions are you feeling at the present moment?
  3. What specific physical sensations are you feeling in your body?
  4. What are you thinking about right now? (What is your current self-talk?)
  5. What’s the worst that can happen? Then, the next worst that can happen? and the next worst?
  6. What’s the best that can happen? The next best thing that can happen? and the next best?
  7. What fears and limiting beliefs have been revealed in the answers above?
  8. Create an affirmation to refocus each fear and limiting belief.

I recommend creating as many affirmations as you feel comfortable working with at a given point. Personally, I often choose 3 – 5 at a time, so that when I say the affirmations in succession I can feel the powerful *new story* emerging within me. Since we are ALWAYS affirming something, being conscious about what you are saying and thinking is very empowering.

As business owners tell a new story, and consciously shift our thinking from the unhelpful to the helpful, we begin to feel an energetic shift that is reflected in our business experiences.

Cultivating a Sense of Wonder

The subconscious mind is quite remarkable. Besides being at our beck-and-call 24/7, it doesn’t know time (past, present, or future), and it’s always looking for answers…even while we sleep!

If you are dwelling on a past problem, the subconscious doesn’t know it happened in the past, and begins responding  AS IF you are living that same problem in this moment.

If you are worrying about a future potential problem, the subconscious again responds AS IF it’s happening now.

When you ask, “why am I having all these problems?”, the subconscious begins seeking the answer to that question by looking for problems. So, the questions we ask ourselves become very important!

Likewise, if you dwell on exciting and fun possibilities in your life, the subconscious will play with that, too! It will look for even more possibilities, and expand on the ones we’ve already discovered. Asking supportive questions can shift your energy and the way you experience the world.

When you are asking questions that support you, the subconscious mind will find a way to support you in return. That’s why sayings like “If there is a will, there’s a way” holds such a powerful truth.

Prolific author, speaker and creativity coach, Eric Maisel, suggests we take advantage of this 24/7 *service* offered by the subconscious mind by consciously cultivating a sense of wonder. We do this by wondering openly, asking open-ended questions the subconscious can begin seeking answers to those questions.

You can really have a lot of fun with this, and it’s quite the vibe-lifter:

“I wonder how all my perfect opportunities & people are finding me so easily?”

“I wonder why I am having so much fun and smiling so much?”

“I wonder why my life feels so easy and joyful?”

“I wonder how the Universe is expanding my dreams into reality right now?”

“I wonder why my life keeps getting better and better?”

This evening, I began tweeting the questions above and it immediately caught the attention of people who wanted a reason to smile and feel good.

Your turn…how will you cultivate wonder?

The Power of Declaration

One of the most valuable lessons I learned about the Law of Attraction (LOA), and the one I hear talked about least, is the importance of letting go of the doubt and questioning, and replacing it with intent and declaration. You don’t have to completely work through the doubt, just be willing to set it aside and choose to speak with positive intent.

I talk to people who say they know all about LOA, have been practicing it for 10-20 years, who seem to be completely unaware of this truth or it’s power to create change. They talk about themselves, their life, and their services in a series of doubts and questions:

I’m trying something new, so I guess we’ll see…

I don’t know what I’m going to do…how do I get more traffic on my website?

I’m wondering WHAT I am doing that’s creating all these problems?

I have no idea where my next client is coming from…

It will be interesting to find out if this marketing is ever going to work…

Oh, my schedule is so crazy, I have no idea if I’ll have time for that [fill in the blank] next week. I really want to do it, but I don’t…

OK, I could go on, but I think you get the picture. In fact, you may recognize some of these statements in your own experience. If you want to create something new, you have to speak positively of its possibility, not the lack or doubt of it.

Let’s step back for a moment and review some fundamentals of the Law of Attraction: Your thoughts attract experiences that match in tone and vibration. Therefore, you get what you think about, whether you want it or not. Since you are almost always thinking during your waking hours, how you think/feel affects every aspect of your life.

Everyone who understands LOA will agree with the above, although the mechanics of it are a bit more complicated*. Mechanics aside, many LOA practitioners forget that you are creating through thoughts and feelings even when you are complaining, worrying, or saying that ‘nothing is working’. When you are making statements about your doubt, your fears, your worries, your concerns, you are still creating MORE of those doubtful, fearsome, or worrisome experiences.

Whatever you give your attention to, even if it is the LACK of something, you are also giving energy to it, and therefore, it is growing in response to your attention. You are literally creating the possibility when you give it attention, which means life is always making you right~everything you speak is an affirmation of something!

If you believe you are being disrespected, you’ll suddenly see evidence of this all around you.

If you are focusing mostly on where you are failing, or unsure, you are creating more experiences to feel like you are failing or unsure.

If you are focusing on a lack of clients or marketing success, you are creating more experiences that will point out the lack of clients or marketing success.

If you are doubting your abilities, LOA will line you up with proof to support your doubt.

If you are constantly asking questioning yourself, you will be shown more reasons to question yourself.

What’s equally true is this: When you get very clear about what you want (respect, success, clarity, clients, confidence, and self-esteem), and begin *intending* to experience these qualities, you will ALSO be shown proof of them!

Even if you don’t know how to accomplish your goal, if you remember that you are a creative being and what you state is possible to create, you can begin making powerful statements of intent.  By shifting your questions into declarations of what you desire to experience, you can begin to shift your experiences. That’s powerful and deliberate creation! When you open up to the possibility of change, even when you have no clue how to change, repeated declarations of intent will draw to you the people, resources, and opportunities to experience what you declared.

Don’t take my word for it, though…try it out for yourself. Stop doubting, start declaring. Notice where you have introduced doubt and confusion into your thoughts, and choose instead to declare what you prefer to experience. Then, share what you notice in the comments below…we can all learn from each other!

Remember to allow yourself to notice any emotions and thoughts come up when you try to shift your questions to declarations. Feel those emotions and give them your loving attention until they pass. They are important clues to any subconscious blocks that may be preventing you from moving forward. However, if you feel stuck in negative emotions, find a coach or therapist who will help you move through them.

*Your heart is 100 times more powerful electrically, and up to 5,000 times more powerful magnetically, than your brain. So, the electro-magnetic field generated by emotions, felt by your heart, is very powerful and connected to the Quantum Field of Possibilities! Research has shown that atoms are changed either electrically or magnetically, so our hearts have the capacity to change the atoms around us.
