Taking Score Too Soon and Too Often

Last Friday, I was on the Good Vibe University WaterCooler call ~ that’s their weekly open call about random Law of Attraction (LOA) topics that changes every week. Jeannette Maw, the Good Vibe Coach and founder of GVU was talking about a manifesting technique that clearly worked for others, but didn’t work for her when she tried it. Immediately, I got an image that is familiar with other clients I have helped: I made a comment that when we are taking a specific action only for the result we are seeking, and we might be flowing the impatient vibe of “come on, come on…where is it? where is it? where is it?” And like a watched pot, it never seems to boil.
Jeannette heard me and wrote this entertaining blog post about the Watched Pot Syndrome.
I’ve actually seen this behavior with a lot of clients, those who are new to LOA and experienced teachers. Many fall victim to taking score too soon and too often, that keep them in a suspended state of NOT seeing what they are looking for.
Louise Hay equates this to planting a seed, watering it, nurturing and then digging it up every few hours to see how it’s doing. We all know from experience that it’s best to plant and nurture the seed, and THEN let nature take it’s course. Otherwise, you’ll kill the seed and it will never have a chance to blossom.
The hardest part may not be the seeding and nurturing of your dreams, but taking your attention OFF of them long enough to enjoy the rest of your life! This is why I recommended having a prepared “Joy List” you can go to any time you desire. I also recommend having lists of activities you know you enjoy so you have many options to choose from. Distracting yourself with activities and experiences that feel good will not only help the time pass quickly, but it will also help you to stop taking score too soon or too often, and stop watching the pot impatiently.

Have you ever done this: You got clear about what you really wanted, focused on it with positive energy, and then waited and watched intently for signs of your desire manifesting?

Did you find yourself keeping track of all you are doing, constantly taking score and waiting, waiting, waiting… and feeling incredibly frustrated by the process?

Last Friday, I was on the Good Vibe University WaterCooler call ~ a weekly open call for GVU members about random Law of Attraction (LOA) topics  of interest. Jeannette Maw, the Good Vibe Coach and founder of GVU, was talking about a manifesting technique that clearly worked for others, but didn’t work for her when she tried it.

As she spoke, I got a familiar image that I often see with the clients I have helped: The Watched Pot. I made a comment that when we are taking a specific action only for the result we are seeking, we might be flowing the impatient vibe of “come on, come on…where is it? where is it? where is it?” Just like a proverbial watched pot that never seems to boil, manifestations never seem to happen.

Jeannette heard my comment and wrote this entertaining blog post about the Watched Pot Syndrome.

I’ve actually seen this behavior with a lot of clients, those who are new to LOA as well as experienced LOA teachers. Many fall victim to taking score too soon and too often, so busy looking for results to show up, looking for the tiniest sign, that it keeps them in a suspended state of NOT seeing, not experiencing, not manifesting.

We give it the energy it needs and the time for the process to unfold.

The hardest part of manifesting may not be the seeding and nurturing of your dreams, but taking your attention OFF of them long enough to enjoy the rest of your life! This is one reason why I recommend having a prepared “Joy List” you can go to any time you desire. I also recommend having lists of activities you know you enjoy so you have many options to choose from.

Distracting yourself with activities and experiences that feel good will not only help the time pass quickly, but it will also help you to line up your energy with what you prefer to experience.

It also will help you to stop taking score too soon or too often, and stop impatiently watching that proverbial pot (of gold).

Take the Bounce: A Reason to Appreciate Contrast!

This past week, those of us who receive Abraham-Hick’s twice-a-month MP3 files were treated to a new phrase: Take the Bounce.
Abraham used this phrase in answering a question about dealing with contrast, the unwanted experiences that are so different from what we believe we really want to experience. They patiently pointed out to the questioner that when you know what you DO NOT want, you *immediately* know what you DO WANT, so in that moment that you realize what you prefer…let it bounce you in the direction of what you want. Put aside the content of the contrast  and TAKE THE BOUNCE in the direction of what you do want.
Divers uses springboards to propel themselves into a swimming pool. In the moment you realize that contrast is present, it is also pointing you in the direction of your newly discovered preference! That energy of discovery, if seized in that moment, will aid you in *bouncing* away from the contrast and toward your new preference.
When the Contrast is…Take the bounce to…
Realizing you don’t have enough money…Image yourself having all the money you desire, any time
Showing you unkind behavior from your partner…Feel yourself with a loving, kind partner who is thoughtful to you
Tight-fitting clothes…Visualize comfortable close or your ideal body weight and fitness level
Not enough clients for your business…See yourself serving and appreciating the perfect number of clients
A health issue…Believe in your ability to heal yourself, feeling better than before
Now it’s your turn. Where is there contrast in your life that you can begin to appreciate for the bounce it is providing?

Anyone who follows the teachings of Abraham know that they are very creative in explaining concepts of Deliberate Creation, developing new phrases to help illustrate their points. This past week, those of us who receive Abraham-Hicks’ twice-a-month MP3 files were treated to a new phrase: Take the Bounce.

Abraham used this phrase in answering a question about dealing with contrast (Ashville, NC 11-1-09 workshop), those unwanted experiences that are so different from what we believe we really want to experience. They patiently pointed out to the questioner that when you know what you DO NOT want, you *immediately* know what you DO WANT, so in that moment that you realize what you prefer…let it bounce you in the direction of what you want. Put aside the content of the contrast and TAKE THE BOUNCE in the direction of what you do want!

Take the Bounce

Divers use springboards to propel themselves into a swimming pool.

You can use contrast as a springboard toward what you really want to experience. In the moment you realize that contrast is present, it is also pointing you in the direction of your newly discovered preference! That energy of discovery, if seized in that moment, will aid you in *bouncing* away from the contrast and toward your new preference.

When the contrast shows you that you don’t have enough money…Take the bounce to imagine yourself having all the money you desire, any time!

When the contrast shows you unloving behavior from your partner…Take the bounce to feel yourself with a loving, thoughtful, and appreciative partner.

When the contrast shows you how tight your clothes are fitting…Take the bounce to visualize yourself in comfortable clothes OR creating your ideal body and fitness level ~ whatever your preference is!

When the contrast shows you not enough paying clients in your business…Take the bounce to see yourself serving and appreciating the perfect number of paying clients, rewarding you for the value you provide!

When the contrast shows you an undesirable health issue…Take the bounce to know your own ability to heal yourself, every cell in your body aligned with health, and you feeling better than ever before!

Taking the bounce toward your preference gives you energetic momentum to focus on what is wanted. From there you can get into the Vortex about your preference.

When you look at it this way, the contrast that shows up in your life and is part of living, is really a blessing in its ability to provide that energetic bounce toward your preferences! Did you ever think you’d be so appreciative of contrast? Now you can actually look forward to contrast so you can take the bounce!

Now it’s your turn. Gather all the contrast showing up in your life, and see where you can take the bounce!

Effective Solopreneur: Aligning with Your Natural Creativity Cycles

I was recently reminded of the Creative Cycles and realized that it is not exclusive to artists, but everyone ~ as we are all creators of our life experiences. I share this
information with you now so you can begin asking yourself how you can use these cycles to help yourself and your business.
Are you aware of your creative cycles?
Are you taking advantage of their natural ebb and flow to enjoy creating your art, your life, your business?
About 7 years ago, when I was creating a lot of fine art watercolors, a fellow artist friend shared a small hand-bound bound book that explained the natural cycles of
creativity. To be honest, up to this point, I hadn’t even noticed that there were predictable cycles. Although, I had noticed that if I wasn’t creating in some way it was hard to
get the creative process going again.
The book was written by a woman, an artist herself, who was getting her Masters in Psychology at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, I don’t remember
he name, but this gal had noticed a creative cycle in herself and others and decided to self-publish a book about the process. She knew my friend and had given her one
of the hand-bound copies of the book, and my friend shared the book with me. So, I began reading the little book and was amazed how much it not only resonated but
explained a lot!
The author suggested there are four common stages of creativity: Gestation, Inspiration, Creation/Birth, Renewal/Rest. These cycles happen in a certain order, like seasons
of the year, but differ in their length from artist to artist, and project to project.
If you are a successful non-commercial fine artist or a writer of novels, whether you are consciously aware of them or not, you are successfully managing these cycles. If
you are just starting out or an unsuccessful artist, you may not be taking advantage of what these cycles can do for you. If you are a commercial artist, designer (interior,
web, etc.), these cycles are most-likely tied more to the projects you are working on for clients.
Here’s the breakdown of the four stages, as I recall them:
Gestation
This is the stage where things are quiet creatively, but you are feeling hopeful because you are noticing interesting experiences, gathering ideas, deciding what you want
to work on next.
Inspiration
This is the stage where you find a new idea that *excites* you. It might be a single idea, or one idea that quickly spawns many additional ideas. It may be something you
observe outside of yourself or something that pops into your mind. The topic feels juicy and pregnant with potential. You begin whittling down the ideas collected to decide
what you really want to focus upon.
Creation/Birth
This is the stage where you begin taking action toward materializing the inspired idea, from start to finish. The creator’s energy is high, and they often feel full of life and
vibrant. The work may take on a *life of it’s own*, possibly even going in a new direction not considered in the Gestation or Inspiration stage.
Renewal/Rest
This is the stage creatives enter upon completion of the Creation/Birth stage. Often, the artist has been focusing so intensely on the previous stage, that this stage may feel
like a shock. New or Inexperienced creators may find this stage comes relatively unexpectedly. Most creators might find themselves feeling low, possibly even feeling
depressed, in comparison to the high-energy stage of Creation/Birth. Doubt creeps in, and in this low energy stage, the creator begins questioning if they will ever do
anything worthwhile again. In extreme cases, a creator susceptible to addictions may do drugs or drink to deal with the low energy, doubt, worry, and fear. However, if the
artist is aware of these stages and knows *this one, too, shall pass*, they can embrace it and move through this stage relatively quickly~sometimes hours, versus days,
weeks, or months.
How Does This Relate to You?
For centuries, farmers have known to sow seeds, nurture the plants, and harvest with the seasons. Following the natural cycles makes farming easier and more productive.
The same is true for your business. When you read through these stages, above, did anything stand out for you? Did you find yourself seeing connections in your own
creative cycles?
At the end of large client projects, I often got ill or, at the very least,  needed to sleep 14 hours a day for at least a week or more. Prior to understanding the cycles, I would
often beat myself up about getting ill or needing excess sleep. I doubted myself and wondered if I was depressed, even though I felt optimistic the vast majority of the
time. Once I knew about this stage I realized it was not only to be expected, but a good thing that I could look forward to experiencing. I prepared myself for it and
arranged lots of self-care in advance knowing it would be most appreciated. As a result, this stage went from 2+ weeks down to a few days, sometimes just a weekend or
a self-care-filled-afternoon to recharge. Knowing about this stage, preparing for and embracing it made a huge difference!
I also began appreciating the Gestation and Inspiration stages more, instead of putting all of my focus on the Creation/Brith stage ~including the expectation of being in that
one stage ALL the time~I began to see how each stage had value to my creativity.
What stage would you say you are in right now?
What can you do to embrace this stage and prepare for the next one?
How can you use these stages to plan your business activities (including Marketing and Service/Product Creation) so they are fun for you, rather than forced?

I was recently reminded of the Creative Cycles and realized that they are not exclusive to artists, but everyone ~ as we are all creators of our life experiences. I share this information with you now so you can begin asking yourself how you can use these cycles to help yourself and your business.

Are you aware of your creativity cycles, or are you forcing yourself to be always “ON”?

Are you taking advantage of their natural ebb and flow to enjoy creating your art, your life, your business?

Creativity Cycles

About 7 years ago, when I was creating a lot of fine art watercolors, a fellow artist friend shared a small hand-bound book that explained the natural cycles of creativity. The book was written by a woman, an artist herself, who was getting her Masters in Psychology at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the author’s name, but this gal had noticed a creativity cycle in herself and others, and had developed a hypothesis about how to work with the cycles. She noticed that everyone benefited by working with the cycles, rather than against them, and decided to self-publish a book about the process. She knew my friend and had given her one of the hand-bound copies of the book, and my friend shared the book with me. So, I began reading the little book and was amazed how much it not only resonated but explained a lot!

The author suggested there are four common stages of creativity: Gestation, Inspiration, Creation/Birth, Renewal/Rest. These cycles happen in a predictable order, like seasons of the year, but differ in their length from artist to artist, and from project to project.

Here’s the breakdown of the four stages, as I recall them:

1 | Gestation

This is the stage where things are quiet creatively, but you are feeling hopeful because you are noticing interesting experiences, gathering ideas, deciding what you want to work on next. This stage comes after the creator emerges from the Renewal/Rest stage.

2 | Inspiration

This is the stage where you find a new idea, or series of ideas, that really feels *exciting*. It might be a single idea, or one idea that quickly spawns many additional ideas. It may be something you observe outside of yourself or something that pops into your mind. The topic feels juicy and pregnant with potential. You begin whittling down the ideas collected to decide what you really want to focus upon.

3 | Creation/Birth

This is the stage where you begin taking action toward materializing the inspired idea, from start to finish. The creator’s energy is high, and they often feel full of life and vibrant. The work may take on a *life of it’s own*, possibly even going in a new direction not considered in the Gestation or Inspiration stage.

4 | Renewal/Rest

This is the stage creators enter upon completion of the Creation/Birth stage. Often, the creator has been focusing so intensely on the previous two stages, that this stage may feel like a comparative shock. New or inexperienced creators may find this stage comes relatively unexpectedly.

This can be a very critical stage for creators because most find themselves feeling low, possibly even feeling depressed, in comparison to the high-energy stages of Inspiration and Creation/Birth. Unprepared, doubt, worry and fear can easily creep in during this time, and in this low-energy stage, the creator begins questioning if they will ever do anything worthwhile again. They simply don’t have the energy to contemplate something new, and often feel defeated because of the low energy levels.

In extreme cases, a creator susceptible to addictions may retreat to drugs or alcohol to deal with the low energy, and/or soothe doubt, worry, and fear. However, if the creator is aware of these stages and knows *this one, too, shall pass*, they can embrace it and move through this stage relatively quickly~sometimes hours or days, versus months or years.

The creator knows they have left this stage when they find themselves entering the Gestation stage as they gently begin gathering more data and being intrigued by new ideas of theirs or other creators.

How Does This Relate to You or Your Business?

For centuries, farmers have known to sow seeds, nurture the plants, and harvest with the seasons. Following the natural cycles makes farming easier and more productive.

The same is true for your life and your business. Do you force yourself to create when you really need to rest, or try to rest when inspiration is striking? Do you honor or resist your natural creativity cycles? When you read through these stages, above, did anything stand out for you? Did you find yourself seeing connections to your own creative cycles?

At the end of large commercial client projects (Rest/Renewal), I often got ill or, at the very least,  needed to sleep 14 hours a day for at least a week or more. Prior to understanding the Creativity Cycles, I would often beat myself up about getting ill or needing excess sleep. I doubted myself and wondered if I was depressed, even though I felt optimistic the vast majority of the time. I also began appreciating the Gestation and Inspiration stages more, instead of putting all of my focus on the Creation/Birth stage ~including the expectation of being in that one stage ALL the time~I began to see how each stage had value to my creativity.

Here are some questions to ask yourself now:

What stage would you say you are in right now?

What can you do to embrace this stage and prepare for the next one?

How can you use these stages to plan your business activities (including Marketing and Service/Product Creation) so they are fun for you, rather than forced?

How can you combine these stages with your knowledge of the Law of Attraction to create true synergy?

Do You Argue For Your Limitations?

Have you ever met someone who complains for hours about all the problems in their lives, then when offered several really great solutions they begin to argue about why they must continue to do what is clearly not working for them? This is called “arguing for your limitations”~arguing for why it’s impossible to change, why it’s necessary remain stuck in misery.

Like a proverbial stuck record, this person is convinced that the world is out to get them, nothing goes their way, all the existing solutions and opportunities have failed them (even while they work beautifully for others). Furthermore, if they try to change what’s not working for them, they are convinced it will turn out *worse* than it already is! This person will argue for hours about why *nothing will ever change*.

Convinced that nothing works, that is in fact what these people experience ~and they can PROVE it! In fact, they could go on for days with example after example of how this is true. Deep down, these people feel powerless and keep wondering why someone doesn’t come along an *solve* the problem for them.

The sad irony is~even if others DID solve their problems, it would only be temporary because this person believes and is therefore attracting “nothing works for me, my life is constant struggle”. Whatever gains they receive through others helping them is quickly lost, and they are soon back behind the eight-ball of life. They are forever stuck in a cycle of nothing working and constant struggle.

You may think you are pretty evolved and are grateful you are not like this. However, many who consider themselves conscious and deliberate creators about most subjects may find that they still harbor similar attitudes on *certain subjects*. Money is the most common one for individuals. Business owners often have it about selling and marketing.

Is there an area of your life where nothing seems to be working, and everything you try fails? How often do you tell *that* story? Do you find yourself justifying why your problem is unsolvable? These are all signs that you *might* be spending some of your energy arguing for your limitations on this subject.

If you think you might be limiting yourself in a certain area, ask yourself:

How has this limiting belief served me? We usually took on a limiting belief to protect ourselves when we were younger, without realizing we have outgrown the need as an adult. Be grateful for how it has served you and recognize why you no longer need it.

How would I show up in the world if I didn’t believe this? How does it feel when you consider a life without this belief?

What would it take for me to feel safe in replacing this limiting belief with a supportive one? When you know what you don’t want, it points to what you DO want. By choosing supportive thoughts ahead of time, and developing a plan you can implement, you have something to turn to in lieu of the limiting beliefs.

Based on your answer to the last question, begin implementing your plan for replacing the belief. Then, notice what begins to change around you.

Just like it’s important to clear the physical clutter, it’s important to release the limiting beliefs that no longer serve us.

Note: If it just feels too scary to release a limiting belief, that’s OK, too. Recognizing it is the first step. You can always change your mind, or seek a coach or counselor to assist you in the process.

Are you harboring limiting beliefs? Have you recently let some go? What helped you release the beliefs that were not supporting you?

Law of Attwaction (LoA on Twitter)

Twitter amazes me. I’ve said it before: Prior to joining Twitter and tweeting, NO ONE could convince me that it was possible to forge a relationship 140 characters at a time, let alone make a difference in people’s lives. Further, I would never believe it could be such a vehicle for the Law of Attraction to play out. Nor could I imagine how it would let me make a difference in other people’s lives just by being who I am naturally. Yet, everyday, I receive tweets and direct messages thanking me for sharing something that made a huge difference in another person’s life.

Take Melody Campbell (@SmBizGuru) for instance. She observed one of her followers tweeting me on #MaMo (Manifesting Monday, the virtual manifestation circle on Twitter) about a subject that appealed to her. She retweeted that message (sent it again so her followers could read it), asking to be included in the #MaMo process.

I know from teaching|mentoring|coaching my clients that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all quick fix. Every client must follow their own path to success. I know that many times people ask for something, but don’t really think they can actually have/create what they are asking for. The lack of belief is the real stumbling block, not what they are asking for! I also know that asking powerful questions can get a client to look a little deeper than they have before, which helps them develop a deeper awareness. Every drop of awareness helps as we grow in consciousness and personal power, which is then reflected in everything we manifest into our lives.

So, when Melody tweeted me, I started by asking her a few questions to help her decide how committed she was to experiencing positive change. Each time I asked a question gave her a chance to go a little deeper. She replied, and we went back and forth a number of times. At one point, she seemed resistant so I teased her a bit about whether she really wanted to know the answer. She insisted she did, and after that really tried to answer the questions honestly.

When I could see she was serious about wanting the answer, I intuited that one of the videos I tweet about often would be of great value to her and sent her the link. Turns out, the information I was providing was completely new to Melody even though I had been tweeting about it for the past 6 months! This was not only all new to her, but with the new awareness from answering my questions, she was now really *ready to hear* the message.

Unbeknownst to me, prior to our intweraction (OK, I just made up that word to describe interaction on Twitter), Melody had been praying for some answers to her deeper questions. So, on that day, she was finally *ready* to hear the answer to her prayers, and that’s when she saw my tweets with one of her followers. I see this as the Universe delivering Melody’s request in the most expedient way. She asked, and when she was ready to receive the answer came to her…while she happened to be on Twitter!

The next day, Melody sent me these two Direct Messages: (read bottom one first)

…and sent me this testimonial:

Thank you for connecting with me on Twitter!

Our encounter was brief, but right on target. Nancy and I connected on Twitter with a few succinct 140 character exchanges. Her comments went right to my heart issue like a magnet to steel. She shared a tiny nugget of truth that has played a very large part in a major breakthrough within 24 hours of our exchange. Nancy is not only knowledgeable but she’s “in-tune”. She was a channel for the answer that I had been praying for. I am blessed to have shared this important exchange with her.

Melody Campbell, Conrad, MontanaNight www.TheSmallBusinessGuru.com

So, by being who I am naturally whilst Twittering, yet another person was able to experience an amazing breakthrough. That’s pretty amazing to me and further proof that not only is the Law of Attwaction *alive and active* on Twitter, but we live in an *amazing Universe* that is constantly seeking ways to deliver what we have to offer…and what we need to receive. Are you ready to hear the message?

UPDATE: I posted this in the early hours of 6/19, and later that morning logged back onto Twitter just 5 minutes before Melody’s live weekly Get More Business BTR show. Her guest was unable to join the call, and she was asking for folks to call in. I did, so here is the recording of the impromptu show we did entitled, “Law of Attwaction”. Please submit your comments or questions below or at TheSmallBusinessGuru.com.

Another Secret: Notice What Bugs You

I saw this interview with one of the original teachers on the DVD, The Secret, Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith of the the Agape International Spiritual Center in California. The interviewer’s questions and attittudes were very telling about his misunderstanding of the movie.

Now, keep in mind, there are a total of 10 chapters in the original movie, The Secret:
1. The Secret Revealed
2. The Secret Made Simple
3. How to Use The Secret
4. Powerful Processes
5. The Secret of Money
6. The Secret to Relationships
7. The Secret to Health
8. The Secret to the World
9. The Secret to You
10. The Secret to Life

You can see from the list above, the movie discusses all aspects of your life, yet most people only focus on the MONEY. Just like life, there is so much more to the movie than just money, yet that is what people get hung-up on.

What amuses me about critics of The Secret movie is that their complaints always point to an issue they really need to deal with: If they dislike that it talks about money, they are usually people who have problems around money (earning it, growing it, keeping it, sharing it, etc.). The same with relationships and health. They zero in on “only that” in the movie, and find fault with it. They forget about all the other parts of the movie and miss the overall point: Focus your attention on your positive feelings and emotions, because your thoughts and feelings pre-pave the experiences you live.

Are you often frustrated, angry, or irritated by the people, places, and things you observe around you? If so, you’ve got the perfect opportunity to grow as a human being every time you get upset! Next time you do, notice how you feel and what is really upsetting you.

I’ve discovered that things that bother me, upset me, get me angry or frustrated are *exactly the things I need to address in my life*. Noticing what bothers you will bring up unconscious beliefs that need to be cleared. Of course, you first have to be willing to notice them, see them for what they are. No one can help you with that…you have to be willing and ready to change. When you’ve had enough (problems, difficulties, irritations, etc.), you’ll be ready.

Are you ready? What changes are you ready to make? Share your comments below.
