Subconscious Mind Patterns

subconscious

Have you noticed the same situations happening again and again with your business?
Do you wonder why you are having similar issues recur with clients or vendors?
When was the last time you asked, “Why does this keep happening?

Brain research estimates that our conscious mind is only aware of about 10% of what happens around us and in our thoughts. The vast majority, 50-60% it is estimated, takes place below the conscious level in the subconscious mind.

Bringing the Subconscious Mind to the Light

The 50-60% of our mind that is subconscious is running mental programming 24/7. This part of our mind uses our memory, knowledge, and experiences to make decisions for us. By bringing subconscious beliefs to our conscious attention, we can decide what to keep and what to transmute.

Not all subconscious beliefs need to be transmuted, as helpful beliefs support us in moving through the world without having to consciously address everything. However, most of us through the process of living have some unhelpful subconscious programming that could use some conscious transmutation.

This is because when we were younger, and before we could speak or advocate for ourselves, we made decisions and developed beliefs that became part of our unhelpful subconscious mind programming.

For instance, a child who felt fearful and began crying may have been admonished by the parents for making noise (crying). The parent’s objection may have been to the noise of the crying child, but the child perceived the admonishment as disapproval, which formed a belief that they cannot freely express their fears or cry. As the child matures into an adult, an unhelpful subconscious program based on this belief continually steers them toward not expressing fear or crying.

As an adult, the ability to express our emotions is vitally important, so having a subconscious program running that is counter to our health and well-being would be helpful to uncover and transmute.

Uncovering Versus Looking For Unconscious Beliefs

It’s important for me to point out the difference between uncovering unconscious beliefs for conscious transmutation versus actively looking for unconscious beliefs. The first recognizes that our experiences have always been lovingly pointing to the answers we seek, and that we can raise our energy by being conscious of what we are shown.

The latter approach comes from a dis-empowering energy that there is something wrong with us that needs to be fixed or eradicated. That approach leads us to feel that nothing is good about us, our business, or what we offer. It might even lead us to imagining, manufacturing, and eventually manifesting, more unhelpful unconscious beliefs.

This post is about the former approach—gently and lovingly uncovering what’s already before us. Using our conscious awareness to understand the lesson, and then consciously choosing a new story, a new attitude, a new belief that better supports us and our business.

Subconscious Patterns

subconsciousHave you ever considered ways that unhelpful subconscious mind patterns are working 24/7 in your business?

Bringing subconscious mind patterns to light so we can consciously choose to transmute them is a powerful way for business owners to shift their energy and succeed.

In his 3CD Workshop entitled, The Millionaire Course: A Visionary Plan for Creating the Life of Your Dreams, the author shares examples of how his poverty thinking had been running a program in his subconscious for decades. (If you missed my post with Marc Allen’s interview, you can watch it here.)

Now a mult-millionaire, Marc Allen, author, musician, and founder of New World Library is happy to teach others how to bring their subconscious core beliefs into the light for conscious re-consideration.

Addressing Your Core Beliefs Process

In his workshop, Allen shares a process for shedding light on the subconscious programming that is running in the background of our consciousness. I recommend this process for all business owners as an empowering way to bring unconscious programming to conscious light.

I also recommend that this tool be used on a frequent basis—quarterly, at a minimum. Make the experience enjoyable by setting some quiet time aside, turn on some music, grab a cuppa something you enjoy, then have a nice journal or a new pen handy to write out your answers. The more you do this process, the more you’ll easily see what unhelpful subconscious programming has been working on your business with you.

Don’t be surprised if something you wish you’d known about before emerges after a while of using this process. When you’re ready to release the programming that is no longer serving you, those thoughts/beliefs will appear and become obvious to you. You will know immediately that it’s time to let them go and be ready to do so.

Personally, it has helped me be a more conscious business owner, develop better relationships with clients and vendors, nip problems earlier rather than later, make decisions from an energetically clearer place, and tell a better story about my business.

Here is the process Marc Allen offers in his workshop:

  1. Describe the ‘problem’ as you perceive it to be at the present moment?
  2. What (specific) emotions are you feeling at the present moment?
  3. What specific physical sensations are you feeling in your body?
  4. What are you thinking about right now? (What is your current self-talk?)
  5. What’s the worst that can happen? Then, the next worst that can happen? and the next worst?
  6. What’s the best that can happen? The next best thing that can happen? and the next best?
  7. What fears and limiting beliefs have been revealed in the answers above?
  8. Create an affirmation to refocus each fear and limiting belief.

I recommend creating as many affirmations as you feel comfortable working with at a given point. Personally, I often choose 3 – 5 at a time, so that when I say the affirmations in succession I can feel the powerful *new story* emerging within me. Since we are ALWAYS affirming something, being conscious about what you are saying and thinking is very empowering.

As business owners tell a new story, and consciously shift our thinking from the unhelpful to the helpful, we begin to feel an energetic shift that is reflected in our business experiences.

Have You Been Stoking the ‘Need’?

Are you Stoking the NEEDYears ago, I knew someone who used to call me every few hours insisting that she ‘needed me’ to solve the crisis-of-the-moment. In reality, none of these crises actually existed, except in this person’s mind. Despite being fully capable of handling these crises herself, she had convinced herself that I was the *only* person who could help.

Initially, I spent copious time patiently reassuring her and answering her same questions over and over and over. Talking to her positively, encouraging her to see the bigger picture. Meanwhile, I kept wondering WHY this particular person constantly  calling with dramatic stories of needing rescue.

Then, it dawned on me.

This was a common pattern for this gal. Despite being fully qualified in many ways, she had convinced herself that she wasn’t…and that she needed others to rescue her…everyday! She was clearly carrying a story around that must have been something like:

OH, NO…I don’t think I can handle this. This is too hard! I’m not capable or smart enough to figure this out. I don’t want to be alone with this [fill in the blank problem] because there’s NO WAY I can figure it out myself. Someone else has to help me! OMG – HELP! CRISIS! DISASTER LOOMS…HELP…HELP!!!

While she unconsciously stoked the feelings of urgency, crisis, lack and ‘need’ within herself,  it was manifesting in her outer world…or, rather it appeared to her as manifesting. To me, she seemed to be anticipating problems more than actually experiencing them. Law of Attraction was lining her up with experiences that would make her right.  How we show up in the world reflects our self-talk and deepest inner beliefs.

As I type this, and reflect back on this time in my life, this person was also a mirror for me to see my own ‘need to rescue’. Since like vibrations cohere, Law of Attraction was responding to my need by lining me up with someone who needed to be rescued.

In the beginning, I was happy to be of assistance. But over time, it was no longer fun for me to interact with this friend only in this way. In fact, it was downright exhausting and it was not a functional friendship since I was only called to put out fires, not to relate as a friend.

Do you recognize yourself in either of these examples?

If you like this experience, by all means, keep creating it! If you don’t then in order for Law of Attraction to deliver something different, you have to be willing to shift your energy. That sounds tricky, but it’s not as difficult as you might think.

First, start telling a different story. Even if it’s just a softer version of the story you’ve been telling yourself, begin anew. This friend might have started by shifting her self-talk to something like, I usually like to have help, but I am a capable adult…I wonder how much of this I can resolve on my own. If I can’t figure it out by [date], then I will ask around. Then, taking any actions that she felt guided to take that aligned with the new story.

If telling the new story feels too hard, or brings up lower energies of fear, worry, and doubt, it can be helpful to use a tool like EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to address those feelings and begin to clear them before you start telling a new story.

The new story I actually told myself to shift out of this experience was I appreciate and cultivate healthy, functional friendships with kind people who are capable and helpful. Abraham has said, when we shift our own energy, our experience must shift in response. In fact, other people may meet us in the new vibration, or they may vibrate right out of our experience. In this particular situation, the person seemed to magically stop calling me, and eventually we lost touch. As I let go of the ‘need to rescue’, this person may have lost the need for help or may have connected with someone else who ‘needed to rescue’.

Second, remember times in your past when you exhibited capability. Chances are, you have many, but may not give them much mental attention. Change that now…close your eyes, remember those times, and feel how it feels in your body. Remember this feeling so you can call it up when feeling capable is desired.

Third, look without attachment for evidence that your new story is materializing. In other words, release attachment but allow the evidence to reveal itself to you.

Finally, practice. The next time you are feeling needy, remember this is a golden opportunity to practice a new vibration. Practice makes perfect, so remember the new story and implement it. Call up the memories from the past, and remember the evidence all around you.

Choice Versus Money: A Powerful Lesson

Rikka ZimmermanEarlier today, I was listening to Rikka Zimmerman’s interview about the Access Consciousness process ~ a process that includes asking a series of questions to unlock the mind and also a clearing statement to remove limiting beliefs.

As I listened to this today, one of the most powerful things Rikka discusses is not putting “money before CHOICE”. What does that mean?

Putting money before choice is when…
You really want something with all your heart, whether an object or an experience, but before you allow yourself to entertain the idea of having or experiencing, you shut it down with negative thoughts like:

  • I (We) can’t afford it
  • That will never happen
  • There’s no way I’d be able to do that
  • I never get what I want, anyway
  • Everyone else’s needs come before mine
  • Fill in the blank…the excuse doesn’t matter because they all have the same affect of shutting down the possibility

How often do you put money before choice, or before what really makes your heart sing?

People who have continually have money make choices based on the outcome they prefer (choice), not the presence or availability of money, itself. In fact, many wealthy people will happily go into debt temporarily, using other people’s money in return for interest, in order to make even more money. That’s called investing.

The interesting thing about whether you can ‘afford’ an experience is that we can always AFFORD what we believe is possible. There is no shortage of money when we believe in the possibility of having or experiencing something we truly desire.

People who attract and always have a flow of money coming in not only know how to steward that money, how to invest it to make it grow, but they know that CHOICE always takes priority over money.

To be very clear: I’m not telling you to whip out your credit card and head to the nearest mall. Far from it.

What I am suggesting is that you first become fully conscious of how you feel and never put money before something you truly desire to experience. I am asking you to shift your focus from what you don’t have to what lights you up!

When you focus your attention FIRST on what lights up your heart…the Universe gets that signal and will knock itself out to bring you the experience or the money to purchase the experience! Either someone will offer the experience to you, or will hire you in a way that provides the money for the experience, or the money will make it’s way into your account.

The first time I realized this powerful truth, I really wanted to have solar panels installed on my home so that I would be generating electricity all year round. When I thought about the cost of the solar panels, I could feel the wind being sucked out of my lungs. I didn’t have any extra money for anything other than paying my bills. Just the thought of how much it cost made me want to forget about it all together!

However, the Abraham materials have taught me that emotions are important indicators of where we are vibrationally. When something feels good to think about, it means those thoughts are in alignment with what Source, or the greater part of you, feels about the same subject.

When I thought about having solar panels on the roof of my home, always generating electricity, it just lit me up inside. The feeling was infectious, expansive, delightful – it just felt really, really GOOD!

So, I stopped thinking about the cost, and focused my imagination on *seeing* those solar panels installed on my roof and knowing that they were always generating electricity for my home. Within 7 months I had the cash to pay for those solar panels in full. Every day, I am thrilled to know the solar panels are on my roof generating electricity and I am so happy that I put my choice above the money.

Money will come from wherever it is to wherever you want it, as long as you don’t put it before what lights you up and fills you with joy. Money is energy that is meant to serve you, not for you to become a slave to it. Putting your choice before money sends a signal to the Universe/Quantum Field about what makes you truly happy. The signals we send out are always answered. Life mirrors back to us what we think is possible based on where we are focusing our attention.

Now it’s your turn – I want to hear from you. Share your experiences putting choice before money below…

Our Stories Create Our Beliefs Which Drive Our Actions

You probably have noticed that I have written a lot about how our stories affect us. Last night, I was watching Oprah’s LIfe Class (episode 3, with Cheryl Richardson) where she talks about how we don’t get what we want, we get what we believe. Our beliefs are formed by the stories we tell ourselves, based on what we have perceived through our lifetime.

Stories Beliefs ActionsMost of the stories we carry with us as adults were developed between birth and 6 years old. When experience meets emotions, we create a meaning around that experience that becomes a story – and a story we tell ourselves long enough becomes a belief. If we witness our father being unkind to our mother, we create the meaning that this is how men treat women. When we grow up, we come to expect that behavior from men and will seek relationships that will make us right about our story…even though that story isn’t true for everyone, and it doesn’t even have to be true for you if you decide to drop the story!

Our stories become our beliefs which drive our actions. If you want to know what stories and beliefs you are carrying, take a look at your actions.

I was personally reminded of the power of our beliefs and stories last week when a gunman in my area killed 3 co-workers, wounded 7 others (6 of them co-workers), and eventually killed himself when law enforcement caught up with him. During the first day that he was loose in my neighborhood, we were not allowed to leave the house as SWAT teams with search dogs scoured the area. I work from home, so it really didn’t impact me as it may have impacted others. The whole time I felt safe and knew we were going to be fine.

As news reports came in about the suspect, his co-workers and friends began expressing astonishment that such a nice, happy person – a single dad who was considered to be an upstanding member of his community – could commit such a series of crimes. Most of the people interviewed could not have conceived this was even possible!

I know that beliefs and stories drive our actions, so when I heard about the disconnect between how this man was perceived by others and how he acted, I knew this man was being driven by stories and beliefs that made him feel justified in his behavior.

When you think about it, this is yet another perfect example of how Law of Attraction is ALWAYS working – whether you believe in it or not – and it’s always lining you up with experiences that prove you right. When you harbor thoughts that feel bad, you attract experiences that feel bad, which causes you to focus more thoughts that feel bad, and attracts even worse feeling experiences. The Universe is responding to the energy you are sending out through thoughts and emotions. It doesn’t matter if you are remembering the past, living in the moment, or imagining the future ~ whatever energy you are sending out is what you will attract back into your experience.

As that day progressed, when the media began interviewing the least-wounded, it became clear that the gunman perceived that his employer and all his co-workers were against him. Although he had been employed for 15 years at this company, he was convinced they were getting ready to fire him.

Now, many people lose jobs and…then they get another job. Sometimes even a better job with better pay and perks! So, in addition to feeling that everyone was against him and that he’d lose his job, the gunman last week also had to believe that he would NOT be able to get another job. Dwelling on those negative stories, stewing and festering in those growing negative beliefs, he felt compelled and justified in potentially killing all of his co-workers…which led to attempting a car-jacking (another victim) and eventually his suicide.

To top it off, his two children no longer have their father. My heart goes out to them!

Do you see how the Law of Attraction was lining this father up with more of what he was focusing upon? It really can be no other way – the Universe can only mirror back to us the same energy we are sending out based on what we focus upon and how it makes us feel!

In the end, like all of us, this man’s beliefs and stories drove experiences and his actions. Yes, this is a horrible and dramatic example, but this man would still be alive today – and his children would have their father – IF he had been willing to question his beliefs and stories! For that reason alone, I do not want this tragic series of events to be in vain.

Don’t let another day go by without questioning your stories and long-held beliefs—become aware of your actions, and follow the stories, beliefs, and thoughts that led up to those behaviors. Question the everything that feels bad (sad, mad, frustrated, irritated, etc.) to think. Those are the ones that will create actions you might someday truly regret.

Effective Solopreneur: Closing the Door on Success

closed_dreamHave you been closing the door on your dreams of success?

Most of you understand that everything that exists in physical form first started out in vibrational form, as a thought.

For instance, someone first *thought* about the computer display you are reading this post on before it came into physical form.

In the same way, someone received a vibrational impression of the keyboard I’m typing this on, and translated that thought into specifications that were given to a manufacturer to create. The manufacturer then created the keyboard on equipment that was once just a thought in someone’s mind.

Your dreams and ideas as a successful solopreneur also started as vibrational impressions that you chose to remember, write down, and flesh out into products and services you offer your clientele.

I don’t know any business owner who consciously starts out saying, “I want to create something that will not sell, that will cost more than it earns, and that will be a waste time and money for any of the people who do buy it.”

And yet, that’s the outcome that many people are experiencing. Why would that be? Because many people are unconsciously closing the doors on their own success before it has a chance to move from vibrational form into physical form.

Quantum physics has shown that the Universe is composed of more energy than solid, physical matter. Way more! The more scientists look deep into matter to find what it is made of, the less physical stuff they find and the more energy they reveal. Furthermore, they’ve learned that what we perceive as empty space is really untapped potential energy awaiting our conscious attention. Experiments have repeatedly shown that this energy responds to our conscious attention and that there is unlimited potential in every aspect of this energy. Every quantum possibility already exists, and the one that comes into physical form is the one we have given the most attention.

The difference between a financial depression and financial prosperity depends on which one we give the most attention.

The difference between a business failing and a business thriving depends on which one we give the most attention.

The difference between begging for clients and a waiting list of clients depends on which one we give the most attention.

Our attention includes our intentions, our attitudes, the stories we tell ourselves and others, and the feelings these thoughts, beliefs and emotions evoke. When you speak about your dreams and your business in ways that uplift you, your emotion is telling you that you are in alignment with the deeper part of yourself…the Source Energy that is the basis of everything we perceive with our senses.

When you speak about your dreams and your business in ways that saddens and depresses you, your emotion is telling you that you are NOT in alignment with the deeper part of yourself. You are, in effect, shutting down that quantum possibility before the vibration every has a chance to make it into physical form. That means, every time you repeatedly give your attention to aspects of your life or business that upset you, worry you, or cause you to feel bad, you are essentially closing the vibrational door on your own success. You are the one sabotaging your own potential!

You can blame the economy, or a corporation, or the government, or any host of others for your failures. But if you want to turn the tide, you’ll have to begin by taking responsibility for your success.

Every time you say you want to do something, but you can’t, you have just CLOSED the door on that quantum possibility! It will never open again, until you change the thoughts, stories, and emotions related to that idea. The bottom line is: You are the only one who can control your thoughts, and when you focus on what upsets, worries, depresses, or angers you, you are pre-paving your future with that same energy.

Think about that for a moment. If you don’t like what you are currently experiencing, how much do you think you’ll like more of the same in the future?!?

If you want to see your business succeed, then you must first make a commitment to keep your vibrational doors open. That commitment includes being conscious where you give your attention. It includes stopping the behavior, thoughts, beliefs and emotions that brought you to this point. It also includes not getting involved in other people’s dramas.

It’s one thing to allow others to think or believe whatever they choose, and wish them well, and another to feel it’s your responsiblity to make everyone think like you. You must stay focused on the thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that support your success and let others find their own paths.

If you are unwilling to make that energetic commitment, you have just closed the door on your dream, behind the vault of your subconscious mind. Buried there, your subconsious mind will block attempts to access any kind of success. It will seem like every effort you make is failing, no matter what you do, nothing is working. But who was the one who closed the door?!?

The good news is that you can begin now unlocking your success.

Are you willing to make the commitment to your own success?

What are you willing to do to open the vibrational doors to your dreams and keep them open?

You Are Always Creating

04.2010.creating

We are creative beings in a vibrational universe that responds to our moment-to-moment energetic pulse.

This means you are ALWAYS creating *new experiences*. You create based on what you believe is possible, and that is determined by how you FEEL about the stories you tell yourself and others, the way you speak to yourself, and the way you speak to others.

If you believe you have been abandoned, your life will reflect that.

Every time you criticize yourself or another, you create more experiences to criticize.

If you believe you are supported by the world and those around you, you will be. If you tell the story of how supported and loved you are, your world will reflect that back to you!

Every time you praise yourself or another, you create more experiences to praise.

While the vast majority of people on the planet are still creating unconsciously ~ reacting to the world around them ~ YOU can choose to be a conscious, deliberate Creator *right now*! Others are not unconsciously reacting and creating havoc because they want more things things to complain or worry or fear about, but because they have not decided to be *conscious about their life*.

You are always creating ~

why not create consciously?

One way to do this is to consciously tell yourself the stories that uplift and feel good to you. I created this sign (above) for my office a while back and realized that some of you might enjoy printing it out for yourself, too! Just right-click or double-click the graphic to save it.

If you download the sign, leave a little comment below…and if you have additional ways that you support yourself in being a deliberate creator, share that below, too!

Are You Stuck in Your Story?

Are you stuck in your story?Regardless of your employment, relationship, or financial status, there is one thing that can make or break your success: The stories you tell yourself about why your life is the way it is today.

We each create our own story, usually empahsized with facts such as where we grew up, what our family is like, where we went to school, and how we got into our current field of work. Our story is how we describe who we are to ourselves and others. It is how we internally define ourselves and the basis from which we vibrate energy out into the world and take action. They play out not only in how we speak about ourselves, but in the actions we take on our behalf. This is why the stories we tell matter in every aspect of our life.

Our stories are the information we tell the people we are just meeting, or friends we’ve known for a long time, and represents the way we feel about ourselves. If you see yourself as a winner, your story reflects that. If you see yourself as a loser or down-on-your-luck, your story reflects that. Which story do you want to reflect?

Your story keeps evolving all throughout your entire life. If you are breathing, right now, you are telling yourself and/or others some story…the question is: Is the story you are telling yourself serving you in a positive way?

Our stories, like most, are affirmations for who and where we are in life. They almost always start with, “I am…”, and contain some ‘neutral facts’:

I am self-employed, and my clients are…

I am so easy-going that I often attract…

I am organized and self-sufficient, which means I tend to…

I am in my current financial situation because…

After the facts are laid out, however, our stories often include generalizations and beliefs we have about ourselves and others that dramatically affect our life experiences. They become negative affirmations, if you will, for things we don’t like about ourselves. Often, these beliefs are not universally true, or even accurate, but we will speak them, think them, and *act on them* as if they are.

Have you ever stopped to look at the “story” you’ve created so far?

Do you tell yourself and others that your life is productive, successful, and happy? Do you include the many successes of your life and why you are a worthwhile human? Do you support your own success, health, and well-being?

Do you make excuses to yourself and others for your results and make those part of your story? Do you blame others for the experiences that you attracted? Do you justify your behaviors as reasons why you can never have what you want? Do you assume your needs cannot be met, so you stop asking? Do you sabotage any potential for success and happiness?

If we are not conscious, the stories we tell ourselves can morph into subtle forms of self-sabotage. By virtue of the Law of Attraction, we naturally attract more of what we think/speak/act upon. If we are telling the same story, over and over, we are attracting the same result repeatedly and that leaves us feeling stuck. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

For example, someone contacted me saying that they were shocked to find their general attitudes described in one of my articles, “Getting Out of the *How* Business”. They thanked me for the insight, and I responded that I was glad the article had been helpful. They responded back saying, “When you are an organized person it’s hard to get over the *how*” . The words they wrote stopped me in my tracks because I knew they did not have to be true. I also knew immediately: This was the story this person had been telling themselves to justify their current experiences. They justified their current struggles by saying it was hard for an organized person to be open to how their life unfolds.

Being a coach at heart, I couldn’t let that comment rest. I had to say something. (spot the story that makes me think that though?)

I responded back asking if it’s really true that being organized makes it hard to get over the *how*, or is this the story they had been telling themselves? If the latter, I suggested they create a new, improved story for themselves that supported their success and happiness.

By asking that question, and pointing out the story, the recipient was able to make a shift. They emailed right back to share how this was helping them move forward.

It can be incredibly liberating to look back over your life and weed out the parts of your story that no longer serve you. If you have been growing in consciousness, who you are today is much more evolved than who you were 10 – 20 – 30 (or more) years ago. You may not be able to physically change what happened, but you certainly don’t need to speak about it, to yourself or others, dredge up all the negative feelings and dwell in that same energy for the rest of your life. You have a choice in fact, LOTS of choices in how you tell your story!

Start where you are, and imagine new improved story about yourself that supports your own success, health, and well-being.

What are your thoughts about the stories you’ve been telling?
