The Power of Declaration

One of the most valuable lessons I learned about the Law of Attraction (LOA), and the one I hear talked about least, is the importance of letting go of the doubt and questioning, and replacing it with intent and declaration. You don’t have to completely work through the doubt, just be willing to set it aside and choose to speak with positive intent.

I talk to people who say they know all about LOA, have been practicing it for 10-20 years, who seem to be completely unaware of this truth or it’s power to create change. They talk about themselves, their life, and their services in a series of doubts and questions:

I’m trying something new, so I guess we’ll see…

I don’t know what I’m going to do…how do I get more traffic on my website?

I’m wondering WHAT I am doing that’s creating all these problems?

I have no idea where my next client is coming from…

It will be interesting to find out if this marketing is ever going to work…

Oh, my schedule is so crazy, I have no idea if I’ll have time for that [fill in the blank] next week. I really want to do it, but I don’t…

OK, I could go on, but I think you get the picture. In fact, you may recognize some of these statements in your own experience. If you want to create something new, you have to speak positively of its possibility, not the lack or doubt of it.

Let’s step back for a moment and review some fundamentals of the Law of Attraction: Your thoughts attract experiences that match in tone and vibration. Therefore, you get what you think about, whether you want it or not. Since you are almost always thinking during your waking hours, how you think/feel affects every aspect of your life.

Everyone who understands LOA will agree with the above, although the mechanics of it are a bit more complicated*. Mechanics aside, many LOA practitioners forget that you are creating through thoughts and feelings even when you are complaining, worrying, or saying that ‘nothing is working’. When you are making statements about your doubt, your fears, your worries, your concerns, you are still creating MORE of those doubtful, fearsome, or worrisome experiences.

Whatever you give your attention to, even if it is the LACK of something, you are also giving energy to it, and therefore, it is growing in response to your attention. You are literally creating the possibility when you give it attention, which means life is always making you right~everything you speak is an affirmation of something!

If you believe you are being disrespected, you’ll suddenly see evidence of this all around you.

If you are focusing mostly on where you are failing, or unsure, you are creating more experiences to feel like you are failing or unsure.

If you are focusing on a lack of clients or marketing success, you are creating more experiences that will point out the lack of clients or marketing success.

If you are doubting your abilities, LOA will line you up with proof to support your doubt.

If you are constantly asking questioning yourself, you will be shown more reasons to question yourself.

What’s equally true is this: When you get very clear about what you want (respect, success, clarity, clients, confidence, and self-esteem), and begin *intending* to experience these qualities, you will ALSO be shown proof of them!

Even if you don’t know how to accomplish your goal, if you remember that you are a creative being and what you state is possible to create, you can begin making powerful statements of intent.  By shifting your questions into declarations of what you desire to experience, you can begin to shift your experiences. That’s powerful and deliberate creation! When you open up to the possibility of change, even when you have no clue how to change, repeated declarations of intent will draw to you the people, resources, and opportunities to experience what you declared.

Don’t take my word for it, though…try it out for yourself. Stop doubting, start declaring. Notice where you have introduced doubt and confusion into your thoughts, and choose instead to declare what you prefer to experience. Then, share what you notice in the comments below…we can all learn from each other!

Remember to allow yourself to notice any emotions and thoughts come up when you try to shift your questions to declarations. Feel those emotions and give them your loving attention until they pass. They are important clues to any subconscious blocks that may be preventing you from moving forward. However, if you feel stuck in negative emotions, find a coach or therapist who will help you move through them.

*Your heart is 100 times more powerful electrically, and up to 5,000 times more powerful magnetically, than your brain. So, the electro-magnetic field generated by emotions, felt by your heart, is very powerful and connected to the Quantum Field of Possibilities! Research has shown that atoms are changed either electrically or magnetically, so our hearts have the capacity to change the atoms around us. 2. Nancy, I really like this post. As I was reading it, I was noticing that I can bring more awareness to my speaking patterns and also strengthen my mental muscle to truly think and intend what I choose to experience before I speak…so that I can declare my conscious creations!!

A powerful exercise. Thank you for writing and sharing this post with us to learn from.

Have a wonderful day and weekend! (Happy Halloween!! 🙂

    • Yes, Jared, we can ALL bring more awareness to every aspect of our life~including how we speak. :o) Ever notice how many spiritual teachers seem to respond very slowly to other’s questions? They are first formulating the appropriate response that is in line with their teachings. It’s not a coincidence that their words seem more powerful after they take a moment to align their thoughts with their words.

Shifting from doubt to declaration is a simple, yet powerful, step that anyone can begin taking in this moment. Costs nothing, changes everything!

      Many blessings,
      Nancy

  3. I love the way you say

“you are a creative being and what you state is possible to create”

    this is a definite truth.

The challenge most people face, myself included, is we often speak what we dont want. I read a great thing in psycho cybernetics, that if you were to talk your thoughts out loud, you would stop saying the things that go round and round your head. I tried it, its true, when you speak aloud, you really questionwhat you say.

    • Thank you for your comment, Maxine!

I appreciate the great reminder about the PsychoCybernetics technique. Over the years, I have trained myself to question thoughts and feelings that don’t serve me. For those that are just starting out, talking out their thoughts is a good place to start!

I must confess: When it’s time to write a blog post, I get a flow of ideas but no specific words. Then, when I actually sit down to type it, the words seem to just come through me~as if I’m channeling the information. Brilliant stuff that I haven’t even consciously thought of starts showing up. I’m not fully aware of what I’ve written until I go back to edit. The part you pointed out (you are a creative being…) is an example of that. After I read it, I thought, “Whoa…that’s COOL and it rhymes!” LOL! :o) May we all be so easily amused with our own efforts.

      Many blessings,
      Nancy

  4. Thanks for your response Nancy. That is really interesting that you sit and work like that. Is there a specific ritual you go through, or do you just sit and wait. I love Neale Donald Walsch books and Ester Hicks and the idea of channeling is not new to me. Just wondered the best way to do that, have you written any articles on that? Thanks .

    • Hi, Maxine,

Actually, I stumbled upon this quite unexpectedly~during a period of time when I personally believed that channeling was hooey and those who claimed they did it were scammers. That’s right!

One day, I was so frustrated, I sat down to journal and just started ranting. I was getting it all OUT on paper, and then began asking lots of questions. Suddenly, I was aware of the answers to the questions and kept writing! I’d get the responses in chunks of words, just small enough that I could remember their order to write them down, but they didn’t make sense until I was finished and re-read what I wrote. I kept thinking, “WHERE is this information coming from?!? I didn’t know this stuff!”

Since then, I’ve learned that journaling this way is often called “Automatic Writing”. It used to only happen with pen and paper (like Neale D. Walsh experienced), but now it happens when I type out blog posts. I get intuitive guidance to write about a certain subject, then it comes together as I type and edit.

I’ve noticed that virtually all creative folks (visual artists, writers, dancers, etc.) ~who easily get into a *zone* or altered state when creating~ are experiencing something similar. When I paint, I may have an idea I want to work on, but during the experience of painting, new information and ideas just *show* up. As the artist, I get to decide what I listen to and what I ignore.

So, no rituals…just putting myself in front of paper or computer. Have you developed a consistent journaling practice?

      Many blessings,
      Nancy

  5. Wow, this is so true. It just takes a lot of work to NOT doubt here and there throughout the day. Especially when the mail comes and there’s more bills. Or, you open your inbox and there’s no orders, lol. A constant learning process I suppose. The mind IS a powerful thing.
.-= sheila´s last blog ..Next time, take the stairs. =-.

    • Sheila, I read your comments, and invite you to ask yourself…is this the story you want to live your life by?:

It just takes a lot of work to NOT doubt here and there throughout the day. Especially when the mail comes and theres more bills. Or, you open your inbox and theres no orders

Is it possible to tell a different story? Such as…

      > When doubt shows up, I just lovingly remind myself that I am the one creating my life experience and I choose [fill in blank]
      > I am grateful that mail is delivered right to my home
      > It’s thrilling to see how many companies believed in me enough to extend credit and services in advance of payment
      > When ‘what shows up’ is not preferred, I take time to visualize and imagine myself living a new possibility
      > As I open my heart and focus on new possibilities, my life shifts in that new direction
      > I’m loving that I get to choose what feels best to me, and then create more of what feels good

We are always telling ourselves a story. Always. However, you always get to choose which story you tell. If the story you have been telling doesn’t feel good, you can start this minute telling a new, better-feeling story. As you get used to the new story, you’ll be expected to let go of the old one. Conflicting stories cancel each other out. You might enjoy this post: Are You Stuck in Your Story?

  6. Ok. I have a personal story to share. One that illustrates the power of intent.

Many years ago (back in 1986 actually : ) )my husband and I took a trip to the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. At that time the only way we could get to a coastal village called Puerta Angel was to take a small DC3 jet from the town of Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido, then take a taxi to Puerto Angel.

Soon after arriving at the inn where we were staying I realized that I was missing my purse and that I had left it in the taxi. I told my husband and then I told the owner of the inn who happened to be an American. Since there were no phones in town she offered to drive my husband and I the next morning to a nearby town where there was a phone.

Fortunately I had been reading a book that described the process of affirmation and visualization. The author, Ann Wigmore, emphasized the importance of being in alignment with your intent. I was able to do that and to not give in to any doubt, even when another American at the inn tried to discourage my ability to retrieve my purse in Mexico.

The next morning the owner of the inn drove us several miles to the neighboring town and to the store where the one phone was located on a desk. There was a long line of people waiting to use this one phone. Because of this, Suzanna, the inn owner, offered to drive us to the airport which was about 50 miles away. On the way there I continued to align with my intent and vision. I kept seeing my purse in my hands with all my money and passport in tact.

As soon as we drove up to the airport I saw the taxi that we took to the inn the day before. It was parked right out front of the airport. I rushed up to the taxi and a man who was standing in front of it stopped and asked if he could help me. I told him about my purse and he gave me a look and said, “Senorita, sorry but don’t expect to get your purse back, not in Mexico. ” With that I ran up to the taxi and looked inside. There sitting on the floor of the back seat was my purse. Right where I left it. The man couldn’t believe it. He started jumping up and down yelling. ” Milagro. Milagro! It’s a miracle! It’s a miracle!

From then on I knew the power of intent. When we are clear and in perfect alignment with our intent miracles happen.

  7. Love, Love, Love when readers share their great stories!!!

Thank you, Susan! That is *exactly* what holding an intent, vision or belief even in the face of naysayers is all about. Knowing this, after having experienced it, means you can replicate it in any area of your life. It’s empowering, isn’t it!?!

Thank you again, and Many blessings,
    Nancy

    • Thanks for your comment, Iyabo. Yes, I do focus on creativity~if you recognize you are a powerful creator, then victim-hood and blaming others has no reason for existing. When each of us realizes WE are the ones who choose to buy into and feed doubt/worry/fear, and that it dies as soon as we stop feeding it, then our world-view shifts~and therefore, our life shifts, too!

      Many blessings,
      Nancy

  8. Thanks Nancy for your reply. I must confess I have gone through periods of journalling and then times when I get too busy in the mornings, I have young children, that I get sidetracked. However I think its a really good idea and I am going to set a time in my day when I am usually home alone when I can do this without being interupted.

Thank you for sharing your experience and insights, its very helpful.

all the best to you and look forward to your next post.

  9. Nancy Nancy Nancy — once again, you continue to rock on!

I linked over to your Declaration post and I love it!!! Thank you for providing that link! Just what I needed to hear! Funny, I know these things and even if I think I’m being positive there will be some external “proof” and I think “WTF?”. I’ll be reading your post again!

Thank you Thank you Love you!
